SYSTEM OF A DOWN Frontman SERJ TANKIAN Goes Nuclear On New Solo Slam Single ‘A.F. DAY’
Daily noise that works faster than a stream of caffeine
17 May 2024
It’s been 19 years now since Californian metal-punk bulldozer System Of A Down
released their album Hypnotize and no sign whatsoever that they will ever come
back again with new music.
Frontman SERJ TANKIAN is a bit more active, although
his last solo LP Orca Symphony No. 1 dates from 2013.
In 2022 he wrote/recorded, along with his acclaimed Armenian compatriot
Sevak Amroyan a classical piano song named Amber, pronounced ‘ahm-be’r’
in Armenian, meaning ‘clouds‘ in English. Quite special. Tankain as tenor.
Last year Cesar Gueikian, the CEO of the Gibson Guitar company invited
Tankian and Black Sabbath‘s guitar hero Tony Iommi for a one-off collaboration.
The result was tempestuous single Deconstruction.
This week, the Armenian loudmouth launched his
memoir Down With The System. More info here
And today he announced a new solo EP, named Foundations and
shared the first single A.F. DAY which stands for Another Fucking Day.
Tankian: “This is a song I wrote in the early days of SOAD that I never released.
The majority of the instrumentation and vocals are recordings from that time.
Dystopian in mood, it’s a reflection of the angst and anti-authoritarian attitude
I had to conformity.”
Wake up people,
ST goes nuclear.

SYSTEM OF A DOWN Back With Two Smashing Slams – ‘PROTECT THE LAND’ And ‘GENOCIDAL HUMANOIDZ’
New sonic impulses…
6 November 2020
Finally after 15 years, metallic revolutionaries SYSTEM OF A DOWN are back
in town with two smashing slams referring to the ongoing Armenia-Azerbaijan
conflict. Two former Soviet Union republics in the Caucasus region.
“These two songs both speak of a dire and serious war being perpetrated upon our cultural homelands of Artsakh and Armenia. We’re proud to share these songs with you and hope you enjoy listening to them. Further, we encourage you to read on to learn more about their origins and once you do, hope you are inspired to speak out about the horrific injustices and human rights violations occurring there now,” explained the band in a statement.
First, you can exercise your headbanging moves again to jagged jackhammer Protect The Land. Actually pretty melodic and clamorously catchy with a chorus you can scream along at the top of your lungs. A bulldozing standout.
Bang bang…
Outburst number two called Genocidal Humanoidz makes your blood boil and your
eager limbs go mental the way you like it so much. A monstrous speedball with Serj Tankian unleashing all his frustration and anger. A high-voltage hurry-skurry haymaker. It’s official, System Of A Down is back.
Hell bloody hell yeahhhhhhhhhhhhh…

SYSTEM OF A DOWN Released Self-Titled Metallic Powerhouse Debut Album 20 Years Ago…
Going back in sonic history looking for memorable albums…
29 June 2018
Band: SYSTEM OF A DOWN
Album: Self-titled debut
Released: 30 June 1998 – 20 years ago
ALL MUSIC wrote: “System of a Down’s self-titled major-label debut finds the Los Angeles
band consolidating its gothic alt-metal, sharpening its deadly riffs, strengthening its brutal rhythms, and adding muscle to its attack. The band differentiates itself from the legions of Southern Californian alt-metalheads by emphasizing its Armenian musical heritage, which
gives the music an eerie, otherworldly quality. Part of the success of System of a Down lies
with producer Rick Rubin, who helps give the band focus, but ultimately the record works because of the band itself, since they have contributed a set of strong songs that illustrates
this is a band that relies on smarts as well as sound.” Score: 4/5
