1 April 1961 – THE BEATLES Started A Series Of 92 Straight Gigs In 3 Months In HAMBURG

1 April 2025

Eternal pop legends THE BEATLES began a three-month residency at The Top Ten Club,
in Hamburg, Germany, playing 92 straight nights. The group played for seven hours a night
on weekdays and eight hours at weekends with a fifteen-minute break every hour. Talking about Hard Day Nights.

Even more famous are their countless gigs at the Star-Club, also in Hamburg. From those shows, a double live album was recorded, Live! at the Star-Club in Hamburg, Germany; 1962.

During that long stay German photographer Astrid Kirchherr cut The Fab Four‘s original, Scottish bassist Stuart Sutcliffe‘s hair into the style that became the “Beatle haircut”. .

Legendary BEATLES Manager BRIAN EPSTEIN Would Have Turned 90 Today

19 September 2024

BRIAN EPSTEIN was born, on 19 September 1934,
into a family of successful retailers in Liverpool.

He would have celebrated his 90th birthday today.

His parents put their son in charge of their music
shop and he quickly showed a gift for spotting
musical talent.

He met THE BEATLES for the very first time in 1961 at a lunchtime concert at Liverpool‘s legendary Cavern Club. Although he had no experience of artist management, Epstein put them under contract and insisted that they abandon their scruffy image in favour of a new clean-cut style. He also attempted to get the Beatles a recording contract, eventually securing a deal with EMI’s Parlophone label.

Within months, the Beatles were international stars. Some of Epstein‘s other young discoveries had also prospered under his management. They included Gerry and the Pacemakers, Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas, Tommy Quickly, Cilla Black and The Big Three.

In 1967 Epstein died of a combined alcohol and barbiturate
overdose, ruled as accidental, at the age of only 32. R.I.P.
