Last year, eternal global rockers THE ROLLING STONES launched their
new LP Hackney Diamonds, their first original music album since 2005
Bigger Bang longplayer and the first since Charlie Watts passed away
in 2021.

Mick Jagger is 80, Keith ‘Human Riff Richards is 80 and Ron Wood is 79,
yet they started a ‘Hackney Diamonds’ tour in Northern America 2 nights

16 April 1964 – Today 60 Years Ago The Self-Titled Debut LP Of THE ROLLING STONES Came Out

Top longplayers from the past

16 April 2024

60 years ago today, on 16 April 1964, the greatest rock ‘n’ roll band in history released their self-titled debut LP. 11 out of the 12 songs were covers of, mostly, American R&B songs, from Chuck Berry, Rufus Thomas, Buddy Holly, Willie Dixon and others.

The only original, written by the glimmer twins Jagger/Richards, was hit single Tell Me.

The album’s front cover was a photo taken by Nicholas Wright. No title or identifying information other than the picture and the Decca logo. An “unheard of” design concept originated by visionary manager Andrew Loog Oldham.

Some notable artists were on the track ‘Little By Little’: Allen Clarke and Graham Nash (both in The Hollies at the time) with backing vocals, crooner Gene Pitney on piano, and infamous producer Phil Spector on percussion and maracas.

The LP topped the UK and Australian charts.

16 March 1965 – Last Time For THE ROLLING STONES

Top singles from the past

16 March 2024

Today 58 years ago, on 16 March 1965, imperishable rock icons THE ROLLING STONES scored their third number-one hit in their home country (UK) with rad rocker THE LAST TIME with that awesome Keef riff. It was the first No 1 credited to songwriters Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, nicknamed The Glimmer Twins. The song was recorded in California.

The resemblance with The Staple Singers tune This May Be The Last Time was
pretty obvious, but no claim was filed. On the other hand, the money greedy former
Rolling Stones business lawyer Allen Klein, whose company ABKCO Records owns the rights to all 60s Stones music, sued English rock band The Verve for using samples of the Andrew Oldham Orchestra (the band’s young, but tremendously clever manager) recording of
The Last Time
for their mega-hit Bitter Sweet Symphony.

Happy 82 To Rolling Stone BRIAN JONES

28 February 2024

Lewis Brian Hopkin Jones was born on 28 February 1942,
in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England. He would have
celebrated his 82th birthday today.

Jones was the founder (in 1962) of one of the biggest rock groups of all time.
He also came up with the band’s name. I wonder if there’s any soul on this
planet who has never heard of The Rolling Stones.

Jones was a multi-instrumentalist, always hungry for new musical ideas and
also the creative stone who wanted the band to take a more adventurous way.
Like the other Stones, except for Charlie Watts, he also was a busy womanizer.

Unfortunately, he lost himself in a destructive amount of drugs and alcohol.
He drowned, under the influence of damaging stuff, in his pool in 1969. He
was only 27.

THE STONES Had Their 19th Nervous Breakdown This Day In 1966

Top singles from the past

4 February 2024

58 years ago today, on 4 February 1966, THE ROLLING STONES
released 19TH NERVOUS BREAKDOWN. One of their best-ever
masterstrokes in my book. It peaked at #2 in the UK and in the US

Mick Jagger: “It’s a song about things that are happening around
me,everyday life as I see it. People say I’m always singing about pills
and breakdowns, therefore I must be an addict – this is ridiculous.
Some people are so narrow-minded they won’t admit to themselves
that this really does happen to other people besides pop stars.”

“You better stop, look around
Here it comes, here it comes, here it comes, here it comes
Here comes your nineteenth nervous breakdown”

Happy 75 To Guitar Virtuoso And Former Rolling Stone MICK TAYLOR – Watch Him Play On DEAD FLOWERS In 1971

17 January 2024

MICK TAYLOR was born on 17 January 1949
in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, England.

Happy 75 to a genuine guitar virtuoso.

He started his career with John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers replacing the late
legend Peter Green who started another iconic blues band Fleetwood Mac.

In 1966 he left the Bluesbreakers and joined The Rolling Stones 3 years later,
aged only 20, replacing the deceased Brian Jones. He played on 3 classic LPs,
Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main St.

He also worked with other big artists such as Bob Dylan, Mike Oldfield, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Jack Bruce and Ronnie Wood who replaced Taylor in The Stones in 1974.

Here’s a stunning example of his remarkable guitar skills when playing at the
legendary Marquee Club in London performing The Stones’ Dead Flowers in 1971.
