Credit: YA

Band: YARD ACT
Who: British post-punk outfit from Leeds, fronted by poetic wordsmith
James Smith, who catapulted themselves to the top of indie world with
their first 2 longplayers.

Track: NEW BEGINNINGS 2nd shared cut from their upcoming,
3rd full-length, baptized You’re Gonna Need A Little Music.

TUTV: Beginnings is both a lazy and boogielicious
stimulus that bursts open when eager guitars rev up.

Band: EDITORS
Who: Far-famed rockers
from Birmingham, UK.

Single: THE RUSH
2nd rollout, following Call It In, from their 8th LP,
titled Surface, Echo & Sound. Out October 30th.

TUTV: Their chilling post-punk debut LP The Dark Room, from 2005, is still the one for me. Afterward Editors went down risk-free pop lane. Mind you, they got my attention now and then again, like here with this new urgent tune.

Band: BAD NERVES
Who: London‘s razor-blade sharp punks shot themselves to
the premier league of indie hullabaloo with their first 2 LPs.

Track: NETWORK
No signs of a new album, yet.

TUTV: OMG! Bad Nerves have you in a headlock from the first crushing chord.
No way to escape. You’re in the middle of a punk tornado, and in the end, you’ll
be completely exhausted. OMG!

Band: BODEGA
Who: Zesty indie-dance
rock team from NYC.

Single: ALL INSIDE AQUARIUM
2nd taster and title track, following Pick Up The Check
from their upcoming 5th LP. Out October 9th.

Ben Hozie (singer/guitarist), who says to be inspired by Jane’s Addiction and The Stone
Roses
about the album: “Let’s go back to melodic tunes, let’s be more of a proper rock band. We were aiming at something larger, warmer, watery, and metaphysical, inspired by the optimistic alt rock of our half-remembered youth.”

TUTV: Bodega never reached the topmost level I expected them to reach after their thumping first LP. And as they are now moving towards the middle-of-the-indie-road
rock I wonder if it will ever happen. All Inside The Aquarium has a rumbustious na-na-na
buzz but isn’t the memorable cut I hoped for.

Artist: LOCUST
Who: The logtime project of London-based electro pop veteran
Mark Van Hoen, who also released records as Autocreation.

Single: SOUL SKY
Following Long Distance Lover, the 2nd new piece from his
forthcoming full-length Spectral+, slated for release on Sept 11.

It features rapper Griff Spex and multimedia artist Olive Kimoto.

“I used a couple of the same synths that I’ve still got since the early 90’s.
The beat was made on the sampler I used on my album Truth Is Born of
Arguments from 1995. It was my first time working directly with a rapper,
I’m very happy it was Griff!”

TUTV: Yeah. What’s up, bro? Slow-mo pelvis-swaying time it is. Yeah.

STRUCTURE MODERNE – Parisian Psych-Post-Punk Act Take You On A Mind-Boggling Trip With ‘THE RUSH’

Daily electricity to load your batteries

29 March 2025

Band: STRUCTURE MODERNE

Who: Outfit that emerged from the dark boulevards of Paris, and deliver
a post-punk sound, resolutely singular and transgenerational, incorporating
new wave, jazz, psychedelic and krautrock motifs. The band summons the
great names of classical literature to confront them with the fury of reality,
giving rise to hypnotic and visceral compositions.

Track: THE RUSH
Piece from their upcoming, debut
album, out on 4 April. More info here.

TUTV: Speeding up, slowing down, speeding up again, and all over again, on and on. This mind-boggling, psychotic forth/back, bass-driven race causes a rush of blood to the head. When the band takes a short breather, here and there, it’s only to restart with even more hallucinatory panache while neurotic vocals augment the haunting and far-out stream of this sonic escapade. Trust me, this phantasmagoric trip is a flabbergasting experience.
