ARCADE FIRE – Canadian Rockers Released Splendid Third Album ‘THE SUBURBS’ 15 Years Ago Today
Significant longplayers from the past
2 August 2025
Impassioned Canadian rockers ARCADE FIRE released their
3rd album, entitled THE SUBURBS on 2 August 2010, today
15 years ago.
The songs’ stories are inspired by the band’s brothers Win and
William Butler‘s upbringing in The Woodlands, Texas, a suburb
of Houston in the US.
The record hit No. 1 in the UK,
the USA, Canada, and Ireland.
Win Butler (frontman/guitarist/songwriter): “It’s neither a love letter
to, nor an indictment of, the suburbs – it’s a letter from the suburbs”.
Pitchfork said: “On their third LP, Arcade Fire prove they can make grand statements
without sounding like they’re carrying the weight of the world. Just because the concerns
of ‘The Suburbs’ are at times mundane, that makes them no less real. And that Arcade
Fire can make such powerful art out of recognizing these moments makes our own
existences feel worthy of documentation.”
