TOMMY JAMES AND THE SHONDELLS Topped UK Singles Chart 55 Years Ago With Gospel Rocker ‘MONY MONY’…

Top singles from the past

21 August 2023

This day 53 years ago, on 31 July 1966, American band TOMMY JAMES
AND THE SHONDELLS
occupied the top seat of the UK Singles Chart with
their jangly yeah yeah yeah cracker MONY MONY sounding like rock gospel.

The band had two other massive hits, the sensual Crimson and Clover
and the tremendously frisky Hanky Panky.

Catch the Mony Mony beat here.

If there are some Billy Idol fans watching/listening
right now, here’s the punk’s 1981 ‘Mony Mony‘ cover.

C’mon, Billy.

GREEN DAY Frontman BILLIE JOE AMSTRONG Covers 60s Band TOMMY JAMES AND THE SHONDELLS…

24 March 2020

With the ongoing corona pandemic, many artists stream music to entertain all of us
during these vital and massive quarantine days. Green Day‘s BILLIE JOE AMSTRONG
is one of them. He recorded a fitting version of sixties band Tommy James & the Shondells hit ‘I THINK WE’RE ALONE NOW’.

Amstrong said: ““While we’ve all been in quarantine I’ve been reflecting on the things that matter the most in my life. Family, friends and of course music. I figure if we have to spend
this time in isolation at least we can be alone together.”

Here we go…
