57-year-old songsmith JEFF TWEEDY has always been a very productive musician
from his early days on with Uncle Tupelo (1987-1994), then of course with Wilco,
13 albums so far, and solo.
Last Friday he unveiled his new solo LP, actually a triple-one with no less
than 30 songs (yep, very productive). It’s titled TWILIGHT OVERRIDE.
Stereogum says: “Here we have 30(!) new songs, a document of inspiration overflowing.
For the casual listener, it’s intimidating, maybe even exhausting. However, if you have love
for Tweedy’s music in your heart, if you’ve had your taste imprinted by his weary rasp and expansive sonic vision, if multiple eras of your life have been soundtracked by Wilco, how
can you be anything but grateful for such an outpouring?”
Topdrawer single / Glorious title
TUTV: Tweedy does here what he does best, mixing seamlessly country rock, classic rock,
warm-hearted balladry, romantic lullabies, and musing reflections. As all fans know, he has
a great storytelling voice, taking his work to a most entertaining level.
But 30 songs are way too much to hold my attention, mainly because several songs
are variations of other songs, which leads to listening fatigue (for my ears that is). So
I reduced the triple LP to my fav 12 songs and get myself a notable Tweedy album.

As announced before his new solo LP, actually a triple-one, called Twilight Override will see the day of light on September 26th.
Along with the news came 4 tracks at once. Listen below.
.
Another new one Feel Free followed and now we get the 5th preview
with the greatly titled rocker LOU REED WAS MY BABYSITTER.
Tweedy: “The joy in this dark music that Lou Reed made, and the beautiful conflict that it creates when you try and analyze it. And how it was such a positive force for so many people. ‘My life was saved by rock and roll’ — Lou Reed is saying the same thing. I was babysat by fucking Lou Reed, literally, in my bedroom as a 10-year-old, 12-year-old kid. His music was a more legitimate mentor to me than most of my teachers.”
Definitely echoes from Reed‘s VU days. Pretty cool.

He just announced his new solo LP, actually a triple-one (like I said, very productive).
He named it TWILIGHT OVERRIDE and will be launched on September 6th.
Tweedy: “When you choose to do creative things, you align yourself with something that other people call God. And when you align yourself with creation, you inherently take a side against destruction. You’re on the side of creation. And that does a lot to quell the impulse to destroy. Creativity eats darkness.
Sort of an endless buffet these days — a bottomless basket of rock bottom. Which is, I guess, why I’ve been making so much stuff lately. That sense of decline is hard to ignore, and it must be at least a part of the shroud I’m trying to unwrap. The twilight of an empire seems like a good enough jumping-off point when one is jumping into the abyss.
Twilight sure is a pretty word, though. And the world is full of happy people in former
empires, so maybe that’s not the only source of this dissonance. Whatever it is out there
(or in there) squeezing this ennui into my day, it’s fucking overwhelming. It’s difficult to
ignore.
Twilight Override is my effort to overwhelm it right back. Here are the songs and sounds and voices and guitars and words that are an effort to let go of some of the heaviness and up the wattage on my own light. My effort to engulf this encroaching nighttime (nightmare) of the soul.”
As it is a triple album he offers not just one new, but four
new tracks. Four for the, eh, twilight hours. Pure Tweedy.
