NATION OF LANGUAGE – Brooklyn’s Electro Pop Trio With Trippy Vocal Pearl ‘UNDER WATER’
Daily noise that works faster than a stream of caffeine
24 July 2025
Band: NATION OF LANGUAGE
Who: Productive electro-pop trio from Brooklyn,
who released 3 albums in 3 years and have another
one canned.
Track: UNDER WATER
3rd single from their 4th LP, entitled Dance Called Memory.
It comes our way on 19 September via Sub Pop Records.
Ian Devaney (frontman): “We’d always had a lot of enthusiasm for the track,
but the studio schedule had gotten a bit unwieldy over the holidays and an arbitrary
deadline had been set to be done with LP4 prior to leaving for a January tour in Australia supporting IDLES.
Before soundchecks on the other side of the planet we hooked up all the synths we’d brought with us in the greenroom, remotely concocting the version you hear now. If it somehow sounds distinctly of the southern hemisphere, now you’ll all know why.”
A sweet, trippy vocal pearl, with some
Perfume Genius echoes. Arresting feat.
Wake up, people,
a nightingale
flies around in
your bedroom.
