TUTV: On two occasions (I Need You / Why Is It So Hard To Say Goodbye?) these Boston gunslingers take it easy, but they’re at their stupendous best when they turn up the amps and let the beat and the heat do the talking. Nine rock-solid sucker-punches stand tall and lift this record to a ripping riff-insane level. Surgery And Pleasure is a high-voltage triumph.

Brandon Hagen (singer-guitarist): “I Need You” is the centerpiece of the record. I think
the band and I knew that the song was special. We really needed to nail the way we played
it together to get the feel just right and create the slow build the song needed. We rehearsed it for months and then captured it as a live take. It felt very important to have this song on this record and in my life as it feels like a compassionate moment amongst a pretty gnarled batch of tunes. It is an homage to my dad, the interconnectedness of experience and the traverse of life and death.”

TUTV: I Need You is a feverish 6 and 1/2 minute psych jam that zigzags like a hungry snake looking for an easy prey. At first there’s a foreplay calmness, but midway you can feel the storm coming. Gradually the mood turns into a an upheaval of sizzling perfervidness. Amps up, temperature up, impetus up. Mind-blowing shit.

We carry on playing in a state of semi-denial as the air grows thinner. Reality becomes ever more tenuous and it’s unclear if a spade is a card or a shovel, unclear whether we should be dealing a hand or digging a hole.”

Boston‘s post-punk noiseniks VUNDABAR formed in 2012 and recorded/released
5 longplayers since then, with Good Old from 2022 as the most recent one.

Last June they returned with sassy slam I Got Cracked. And with LIFE IS A MOVIE
they deliver another wacky wallop. A left/right sucker-punch with a fiery The Killers-like chorus. Wake up people, you’re on the screen playing paintball.

When you turned a lie into a half rhyme?
