New York‘s hip-rap-hoppers RUN DMC scored their biggest hit (#4 in the US)
with their fab-tastic cover ofAerosmith‘s 1975 slam dunk WALK THIS WAY.
The song appeared on their tripple platinum LP Raising Hell, featured Aerosmith‘s frontman Steven Tyler and guitarist Joe Perry and was released today 40 years ago,
on 4 July 1986.
Iconic hard rockers AEROSMITH released WALK THIS WAY,
one of their biggest hits (more than 600 million streams on Spotify),
on 28 August 1975, today 50 years ago. It peaked at #4 in the US
and #8 in the UK.
It helped Aerosmith to break into the mainstream in the 1970s, it also revitalized their career in the 1980s when it was covered by hip hop trio Run DMC (in collaboration with Aerosmith) in 1986. This cover was a touchstone for the new musical subgenre of rap rock.
Hard rockers AEROSMITH released their third, successful album ‘TOYS IN THE ATTIC’
on 8 April 1975, today 45 years ago. It sold 8 million copies in the US and its second single WALK THIS WAY became a monster hit afterward when they teamed up with RUN DMC.
AllMusic wrote: “After nearly getting off the ground with Get Your Wings, Aerosmith finally perfected their mix of Stonesy raunch and Zeppelin-esque riffing with their third album, ‘Toys
in the Attic.’ The success of the album derives from a combination of an increased sense of songwriting skills and purpose… Aerosmith cribbed heavily from the records of the Rolling Stones, New York Dolls, and Led Zeppelin, but they didn’t have any of the menace of their influences, nor any of their mystique.
