THE PSYCHEDELIC FURS – Self-Titled Debut Longplayer Turns 40 Today…
7 March 2020
Today 40 years ago, on 7 March 1980, London’s legendary new wave/post punk
band THE PSYCHEDELIC FURS, led by singer/songwriter Richard Butler released
their self-titled debut LP. The band broke up in 1992, but returned in 2000 and
are still going strong. Their new, 8ht album called ‘MADE OF RAIN’ will hit the
streets on May 1. More info here. .
AllMusic wrote: “Emerging from the incipient post-punk London scene with a healthy
fascination for late-’70s Bowie (and in turn, for his own attraction to Krautrock), the
then-sextet kicked up a slightly monochromatic but still attractive storm on their debut.
Richard Butler’s Thin-White-Duke-after-smoking vocal rasp has a surprising appeal,
serving up a wry, slightly detached series of lyrics on life.”.
