5 New Sonic Injections To Start WEEK 42

Week 42 – 2024
October 14/20

Band: THE SLOW READERS CLUB
Who:
Successful pop/rock act from
Manchester who formed in 2009.

Track: TECHNOFEAR
First piece of their new, upcoming LP
Out Of Dream, out in March 2025.

Aaron Starkie (frontman) about the song: “A song about trying to maintain
a solid sense of reality in the face of a world where most of our lives are lived online.
Social media is a bewildering landscape where truths, half-truths, and outright falsehoods mingle in a dizzying swirl of information. On one hand, it provides unprecedented access to knowledge and perspectives from around the world; on the other, it amplifies conspiracy theories and misinformation, allowing them to spread with alarming speed.”

The danger of social media exposed in a lively pop tune.

Band: HUNGRY
Who: Indie turbo from
Manchester, UK.

Jacob Peck (frontman/guitarist/lyricist): “This tune is short, snappy, and does what it says on the tin in under three minutes. Exactly how it should be. The character of in the first part of the song is a cog on the up and up through the rat race, where childlike wonderment has given way to an endless, adult nine-to-five existence. When we switch out of the character at the bridge, it’s more about us, our ambitions and ethics.”

All cylinders on, all burners on and fast-forward from the kick-off.
Sick Of It All is a jagged jackhammer. I added Hungry to the ever-growing
list of post-Brex-shit-punk bands such as Deadletter, Ditz, Crows, Fat Dog,
Lambrini Girls , The Mysterines, and Lice.

Band: THE BROTHER STEREO
Who: Alt rockers from Massachusetts led by songwriter
and multi-instrumentalist Michael Robert Kelly.

Track: The Ballad of the Washed Up (and Seemingly Forgotten)

Kelly: “It’s about being at the top of your game and being a human under a lot of pressure. It’s about the superficiality of the people you meet, keeping up the facade of fame in the eyes of the world and trying to relate to others… I just had Hollywood in mind for some reason and what it must be like for people who are so famous and desirable they can’t walk down the street. Then what it’s like to be the person who used to be that famous and the shit you get for not being as ‘perfect’ or ‘beautiful’ as you used to be. Washed up, if you will.”

Infectious, mixed emotions piece
that moves and grooves with a
doom and gloom sonority.
