Next year, on 2 October, Manchester rock legends OASIS will celebrate (not together,
I guess) the 30th birthday of their second LP, the millionseller (WHAT’S THE STORY) MORNING GLORY? .
Liam has announced that he will play the full album from A-Z.
As it’s 30 years since DM was released nxt year I’m gonna be playing the album from start to finish in it’s original order at a few BIBLICAL venues LG x
28 years ago today, on 6 May 1995, Manchester’s rock champions OASIS
scored their first Number One hit in the UK with SOME MIGHT SAY from
their blockbuster LP (What’s The Story) Morning Glory?
The CD contained three excellent B-sides: Intimate ballad Talk Tonight, blistering
corker Acquiesce, and punk slam Headshrinker. All written by chief Noel Gallagher.
This is how cool rock ‘n’ roll clips look like.
Their Top Of The Pops appearance was definitely cool too.
AllMusic/Stephen Erlewine:“If ‘Definitely Maybe’ was an unintentional concept album
about wanting to be a rock & roll star, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? is what happens after the dreams come true. Oasis turns in a relatively introspective second record, filled with big, gorgeous ballads instead of ripping rockers… Gallagher’s lyrics work best in fragments, where the images catch in your mind and grow, thanks to the music. Gallagher may be guilty of some borrowing, or even plagiarism, but he uses the familiar riffs as building blocks. This is where his genius lies: He’s a thief and doesn’t have many original thoughts, but as a pop/rock melodicist he’s pretty much without peer.” Full review here. Score: 5/5.
Noel Gallagher: “Those songs are just a privilege to be a part of. It’s like when you do great gigs, you come off stage and say well it was a privilege to be at that gig, regardless of my part
in it. “Those ones like ‘Wonderwall’, ‘Don’t Look Back’ and ‘Champagne Supernova’ when I play them sometimes I think ‘wow it is a privilege to be a part of this’.” Read full Noel interview here.
Liam Gallagher: “Without that voice he’d still be ironing Clint boons knickers.”
A reference to Noel’s past as a roadie for Inspiral Carpets. Read the full angry Liam story here.
Turn Up The Volume: “The album with the two titanic songs – ‘Wonderwall’
and ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’ – that made the Gallagher bros immortal.”
