BILLY F GIBBONS – ZZ Topper Boogies And Woogies On Solo Stomper ‘LIVIN’ IT UP DOWN IN TEXAS’

Daily noise that works faster than a stream of caffeine

19 January 2025

BILLY F GIBBONS was the co-founder (in 1969!) and
primary vocalist of ZZ Top, the biggest beard band in
history.

They made 15 LPs so far. The inseparable trio got hit hard when they lost
bassist Dusty Hill back in 2021. At the age of 72 he passed away following
complications with chronic bursitis. Elwood Francis, the band’s longtime
guitar tech, replaced him, per Hill‘s wishes.

Gibbons does it solo here with a song he co-wrote
for the Paramount+ Landman TV Series.

LIVIN’ IT UP DON IN TEXAS couldn’t be
more ZZ Top boogie-woogie blues rock.

Wake up people,
don’t shave and
shake those lazy
hips.

ZZ TOP Released Triumphant Album ‘ELIMINATOR’ 40 Years Ago Today

Back in time

23 March 2023

40 years ago today, on 23 March 1983, giant Californian
rock trio ZZ TOP released their 8th LP ELIMINATOR.

It was a big commercial triumph.
#9 in the Us, #3 in the UK
#in New Zealand, #2 in Canada

AllMusic said: “One of their best, yet it sounds like a mechanized ZZ Top thanks to the unflaggingly accurate grooves. Then again, that’s part of the album’s charm — this is new wave blues-rock, glossed up for the video, looking as good as the omnipresent convertible on the cover and sounding as irresistible as Reaganomics. Not the sort the old-school fans or blues-rock purists will love, but ZZ Top never sounded as much like a band of its time as they did here.” Score: 4.5/5.

R.I.P. Dusty Hill.

ZZ TOP With 17-String Bass

Last year ZZ TOP‘s bass player DUSTY HILL passed away, aged 72.

Drummer Frank Beard and guitarist Billy Gibbons decided to go on with
longtime guitar tech Elwood Francis on bass. They’re on tour right now and
in Huntsville, (Alabama), Francis stole the show by playing a 17-string bass
on the concert’s opener GOT ME UNDER PRESSURE.

Francis: “I was doing night internet searching and turned up a picture of this crazy
17-string bass. I sent a picture to Billy and we laughed about it and made some jokes
about actually trying to use it. A few weeks later, after I had forgotten about it, Billy
shows up with a 17-string bass.”

Play that funky bass, white boy…

Classic ZZ TOP Cracker To Honor Bassist DUSTY HILL Who Passed Away At 72

Top singles from the past

29 July 2021

DUSTY HILL, the longtime bassist for bearded Texan rock turbo ZZ TOP
has passed away at 72. Hill was on a ‘short detour’ at home to take time
to heal a hip issue, but no cause of death has been reported.

His bandmates Billy Gibbons and Frank Beard posted this message on Facebook:

“We are saddened by the news today that our Compadre, Dusty Hill, has passed away in
his sleep at home in Houston, TX. We, along with legions of ZZ Top fans around the world,
will miss your steadfast presence, your good nature and enduring commitment to providing that monumental bottom to the ‘Top’. We will forever be connected to that “Blues Shuffle in C.”
You will be missed greatly, amigo.

To honor and remember the man here’s, probably their most famous hit ever…
