Today 64 years ago, on 17 April 1960, rock ‘n’ roll pioneer EDDIE COCHRAN,
born Ray Edward Cochran in 1938 in Albert Lea (Minnesota), was killed, during
a UK tour, when the taxi he was travelling in crashed into a lamppost in Wiltshire,
South West England. He was only 21.
Fellow singers Sharon Sheeley and Gene Vincent survived the crash. The taxi driver
was convicted of dangerous driving, fined £50, disqualified from driving for 15 years,
and sent to prison for six months.
Cochran was SOMETHIN’ ELSE.
