ROYAL TRUX – Legendary Underground Trash Blues Duo Is Back… ALIVE

ROYAL TRUX – DOK, Ghent, Belgium – 7 June 2017

After 17 years chaotic blues rock duo ROYAL TRUXNeil Hagerty and Jennifer Herrema – is back with a ‘new’ album. PLATINUM TIPS + ICE CREAM is actually a live album with recent recordings of old songs from a concert in New York and one in Los Angeles . It will be out 16 June via Drag City. Here’s a sludgy taste…

.
And in support of that fresh record the ex-junkies & ex-lovers, with a lot of noisy help from a cracking guitarist and a smashing drummer, are back on the road. Last Wednesday they landed in my hometown Ghent. Definitely hefty to see them alive (they look pretty healthy after all these years) and back on stage again. What we got was what we wanted. Forty-five minutes of anarchic and trashy blues garbage. No special effects and perfectly out of tune. Raw, destructive and gloriously crude. Like a mix of filthy Stooges, some deranged Captain Beefheart havoc and Herrema growling and snarling like a tortured reincarnation of Janis Joplin with a ‘who the fuck cares‘ attitude. Hell yeah! Something like this (but much louder)…

Picture this…

A smoke, a drink and lots of roars…

So happy together again…

Fans in trance…

Nice boots, Jennifer…

GUIDE DOG – Experience Pounding Glam Grunge Debut Single ‘I AM THE DADDY’…

Noise that thrills us in a way we want to scream out loud…

‘I Am The Daddy’ by GUIDE DOG

Out of Cardiff three Welshmen are ready to conquer the world while barking like fierce noisemakers. Frontman, songwriter and guitarist Peter Roberts has been around making music for some time now (with People Planes, the wonderful Cold Specks and solo). At one point he quit touring to become a daddy but soon teamed up again with some old friends to start GUIDE DOG. They canned debut album ‘Lovely Domestic Bliss‘, produced by long-term collaborator Dan Austin in just three days. It will be out 7 July. But first debut single
I AM THE DADDY. A heavy grunge smack injected with a pounding glam rock chorus that will activate all nerves and muscles in your spinning head. Open windows and doors, turn it up and wake up your neighbourhood with this incendiary blow. Here’s the beast…

Clips that will impress your ears and your eyes…

VivaVideo

After releasing new, long-awaited, album HUMANZ just last April GORILLAZ is already back with a brand new track. Damon Albarn says SLEEPING POWDER is just one of the
40 to 45 songs (!) that didn’t make it onto the new LP so a quick follow-up longplayer is expected. But first this fresh vibrant tune, actually a 2-D solo effort with Albarn on vocals…

ZOLA JESUS – Spectacular Return With Monumental Single ‘EXHUMED’…

Eccentric and innovative American singer/songwriter/producer Nicole Hummel aka ZOLA JESUS will release new album OKOVI, follow-up to 2014 longplayer ‘Taiga’, on 8 September. The new record’s title and content is clarified in a press statement as follows: “Okovi is a Slavic word for shackles. We’re all shackled to something — to life, to death, to bodies, to minds, to illness, to people, to birthright, to duty. Each of us born with a unique debt, and we have until we die to pay it back. Without this cost, what gives us the right to live? And moreover, what gives us the right to die? Are we really even free to choose?” Zola Jesus recorded the whole album in a period of personal traumas.

Here’s lead single EXHUMED. A gloomy tour de force. A truly monumental and deeply emotional eruption. Really special in atmospherics, vision, sound and voice. Gothic opera…

DAVID BOWIE – ‘The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars’ Released 45 Years Ago…

Great albums from the past

bACK INTIME

The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars by DAVID BOWIE

Forty-five years ago – on 6 June 1972DAVID BOWIE released his fifth album THE RISE AND FALL OF ZIGGY STARDUST AND THE SPIDERS FROM MARS. One of his best and most notorious albums and his Ziggy Stardust persona was probably his most intriguing, brilliant and charismatic creation ever. When I listened to the classic LP again yesterday
(in full for the first time in years) I was honestly stunned by its imperishable beauty, its indefectible power and timeless passion. This is what a genial artist and his work is all about: immortal impact!…

Rolling Stone Magazine journalist Richard Cromelin wrote in July 1972: “David Bowie
has pulled off his complex task with consummate style, with some great rock & roll, with all
the wit and passion required to give it sufficient dimension and with a deep sense of humanity
that regularly emerges from behind the Star facade. The important thing is that despite the formidable nature of the undertaking, he hasn’t sacrificed a bit of entertainment value for
the sake of message. I’d give it at least a 99.”

full here, while I’ll have another listen…
