Last year Bristol‘s Krautrockers BEAK> featuring Portishead’s Geoff Barrow, released their third longplayer, titled >>>. To coincide with a big European tour and summer festival shows the trio will launch a new EP soon. Here’s the first track LIFE GOES ON.

An ongoing motorik electro prog rock groove “inspired by a recent trip to Mexico City for a festival when the band awoke to the sound of a distorted young girls’ voice bellowing across
the city. Further investigation revealed the source as a recording used by scrap-collecting carts urging people to bring out old beds and washing machines.”

Who: A 4-piece indie pop rock band from West Cornwall, UK drawing influences, from indie to early 60s pop. Check out their debut album here

Score: After a beer sip sonic turbulence starts off with a mighty jangling riff, commanding vocals and a merciless rhythm section pushing this adrenalin drenched ripper to stormy limits. TOM PETTY Released First Solo Album ‘FULL FEVER MOON’ 30 Years Ago Today…

FULL FEVER MOON was TOM PETTY‘s first LP without The Heartbreakers although it features collaborations with some of them and also contributions by Traveling Wilburys‘ mates Roy Orbison (who died some months before its release), George Harrison and Jeff Lyne. It was released 30 years ago today, on 24 April 1989. The longplayer was a big success peaking at #3 on the U.S. Albums Chart and hitting #8 in the UK.

Belgian Daydreamers SUN GODS Cover THE CURE’s Classic ‘PICTURES OF YOU’…

Belgian pop daydreamers SUN GODS celebrate the 30th birthday of THE CURE‘s darksome masterwork DISINTEGRATION with an interpretation of their own of PICTURES OF YOU, the best track on that much-lauded longplayer and to Turn Up The Volmume‘s ears the Goth stars’ most magnetic pièce de résistance.

Considering the song’s classic status SUN GODS‘s choice to cover it, is both daring and bold. It’s the passionate vox of frontman Brent Buckler that colors this beauty differently from the original score. Suddenly it feels like there is still hope for a better future after
‘Pictures Of You‘ instead of a never-ending grief as reflected in the doom-loaded impact
of Robert Smith‘s performance. One outstanding song, two different, affecting renditions.

Social-politically committed and dedicated London trio THE RINGARDS got some well deserved critical acclaim with the release of last month’s angry and pissed-off uppercut single ‘ Glasgow Television‘. A legit reason to share a fresh re-work of an older song.

STAY WHERE YOU STAND shows how terrifically amazing this trio is. This mid-tempo belter built around an irresistible drum/bass beat will make your feet stomp along instantly. And when the telling vocals kick in it’s like you’ve been transferred on the
spot to a vintage Libertines corker. Add some staccato jingle jangle guitars, a poppy
synths sequence midway and a scream/sing/hum along chorus and what you get

Legendary hard rockers DEEP PURPLE reached the top spot of the UK albums
chart – for the second time – on 22 April 1972, 47 years ago, with their sixth LP
MACHINE HEAD. The album was also a bestseller all over Europe and peaked
at #7 in the USA. The success of its lead single SMOKE ON THE WATER issued
in December of the previous year was a big factor for the longplayer’s triumph.

Oh yeah, whether you were/are a hard rock fan or not you just can’t ignore the

Los Angeles‘ sharp rockers L7 first reunited in 2015 and repeated this sometime last year with some shaking singles and a documentary. Their new longplayer entitled SCATTER THE RATS, their first LP in 20 years will see the day of light early next month. Ahead of
it the band just dropped another firecracker called STADIUM WEST. A highly infectious poppy corker with a killer chorus. Listen/watch here…
