MANIC STREET PREACHERS Released Furious Anthem ‘FASTER’ 25 Years Ago…

Knockouts from the past

6 June 2019

Today 25 years ago, on 6 June 1994 Welsh legends MANIC STREET PREACHERS
released lead single FASTER from their 3rd longplayer, The Holy Bible masterpiece.
A red-hot-blooded and caustic punk missile. The lyrics were written by the late great
Richey Edwards (who said the song was about self-abuse) and Nicky Wire although
the opening lines “I hate purity. Hate goodness. I don’t want virtue to exist anywhere. I want everyone corrupt” came from the movie based on George Orwell‘s novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, featuring the voice of John Hurt.

The single peaked at #16 on the UK Singles Chart.
B-side was the equally frantic ‘P.C.P.‘.

Here’s the iconic Top Of The Pops performance…
