Crooners MATT SWEENEY And BONNIE ‘PRINCE’ BILLY Charm With ‘MY BLUE SUIT’

New sonic impulses…

25 March 201

American singer/songwriters Matt Sweeney and Bonnie “Prince” Billy
(who seems to sleep with his guitar lately. He’s everywhere) joined forces
in 2005 for a longplayer called Superwolf.

They got together again to can another LP, titled,
eh… Superwolves. Out 30 April. More info here.

One of the 14 tracks is MY BLUE SUIT. A characteristic
troubadour ballad. Smooth, mellow, and romantic.

Enjoy

Combative Noise Frustrations – RADIO SILENCE Scores With Debut EP ‘ISOLATION’

25 March 2021

Band: RADIO SILENCE
Who: Indie team from Newcastle upon Tyne, UK who
impresses with rambling and energetic psychedelic rock.

EP: ISOLATION – the band’s debut.
About: Exploring themes of modern living, such as alienation
in the face of technology and the pressure imposed by the rapidly
growing debt collection industry.

Score: First things first. The artwork of this EP is drop-dead cool. Now about
the music. These hungry gunslingers combine the angry in-your-face frustration
of early punk (Crank Bugs/Isolation), the I want more curiosity of new-wave (Heads
Will Roll
) and the turbulent dynamism of noise rock (Isolation). No rest for the wicked. Blustery guitars all over the place, manic drum hits, and combative Richard Hell vocals. 2021 is the new Orwellian 1984. And Radio Silence don’t like it all.

Supersonic Seattle Pop Party With ‘GET WELL SOON’ By WARREN DUNES

24 March 2021

Band: WARREN DUNES
Who: A Seattle based space pop family band and double
keyboard enthusiasts who still see KD as a supersonic MVP.

Album: GET WELL SOON
Named that way because the band wanted this record to be
like a Hallmark card to everyone who lived through 2020.

Sound: “A little bit Tune-Yards and a splash of Zappa, ‘Get Well Soon’ lives
in that fun world where genre gets tossed out the window. Instead we’ve got
a song celebrating music for music’s sake. Warren Dunes consistently go out
of their way to remind us that music can still make us feel good. With sharp
hooks, weird and wonderful melodies, and their signature beach vibes”

Turn Up The Volume hears: An effervescent melting pot of jazzy pop (Talkin
About That Burden
), Bossanova pop (Count On Me), relax pop (Be Good / Song
Beneath The Sand
), hip pop (Cool Mom) and exotic Dunes pop (Just Another Band
From Warren Dunes
). I’m sure you get the full sonic picture. So, clear your garage,
order a truck with sea sand, install a cocktail bar, put some flowers in your hair
and have yourself a private lockdown party.

24 March 2021

SUBSTANCE – INSIDE NEW ORDER is a brand new audiobook with
legendary JD & NO bassist PETER HOOK telling great stories of his
glorious past with NEW ORDER. Full audiobook available here.

The Guardian says: “”At times ‘Substance’ becomes as debauched
as the notorious biography of 70’s rock decadents, Led Zeppelin.”

To get us in the mood you can listen below to 4 extracts showing
that if Peter Hook didn’t become the fucktatsic bass player he is,
he always could have made a living with his storyteller skills.

Here comes Hooky

Amazing Grace – SARAH WALK With Goosebumps Version Of ‘NOTHING COMPARES 2 U’

24 March 2021

SARAH WALK is a Los Angeles based singer-songwriter with
a crystal voice balancing between chanteuses Angel Olsen and
Sharon Van Etten.

She recently shared an amazing version of global hit Nothing
Compares 2 U
written and recorded by the late great Prince
and made world-famous by Sinead O’Connor back in 1990.

Walk: “I didn’t want to get too inside the other versions that
already existed because I wanted to make sure I approached
it my own way.”

Her version is wholly affecting with an ongoing magnetic piano
touch, a heavy-hearted orchestration, and her goosebumps
voice. Mesmeric rendition!

A Joy Division Nightmare In Slow Motion – ‘FIST’ From ALAN VEGA’s Lost Album

New sonic impulses…

24 March 2021

In 1995/1996 ALAN VEGA, half of synth-punk pioneers Suicide
and his wife Liz Lamere, recorded an album called MUTATOR.
But it never saw the day of light. Then, back in 2019 Lamere and
close Vega friend Jared Artaud discovered the original tapes and
decided to mix the songs into a proper LP.

The lost album will be released
by Sacred Bones Records
on 23 April. Order info here.

We already got a vintage Vega jam from Mutator called
Nike Soldier
(see clip below). And here’s another cut.
FIST echoes like a Joy Division nightmare in slow motion.

His widow Lamere: “Fist’s relentless forward movement of the music coupled with
Vega’s battle cry lyrics makes it a powerful call for action to the people to muster their
power, come together and Make One Nation. The message is timely, the impact timeless.”

Post Punk Sensation BLACK MIDI Returns With Two New Pieces For Upcoming LP

24 March 2021

Band: BLACK MIDI
Who: Post-punk noise freaks from London who made
one of this Century’s best debut albums with astounding
longplayer Schlagenheim.

New album: CAVALCADE (artwork on top)
Out: 28 May via Rough Trade

Rough Trade info: “Dynamic, hellacious, and inventive follow-up
to 2019’s widely-praised Schlagenheim. It scales beautiful new heights,
pulling widely from a plethora of genres and influences, reaching ever
upwards from an already lofty base of early achievements.”

Lead-singles: John L and Despair

John L is another schizophrenic sonic stunner jumping from
left to right while turning your mind upside down. Second track
Despair is a weird sort of ballad, like Scott Walker loves them
when he looks into his troubled soul.
