Big Boom Banger – Radiohead’s ED O’BRIEN Remixes MACCA

8 April 2021

Last December, beetle Paul McCartney released his praised album
McCartney III. He proved once more that he’s still one of the best
pop-song-writers in history.

As announced some time ago a re-worked version, McCartney III Imagined,
with covers and remixes by a notable list of guests such as Damon Albarn,
Blood Orange,Phoebe Bridgers, St. Vincent, Beck,
and plenty more arrives on
16 April.

So far Macca gave us two tasters: one by Dominic Fike and one by Beck.
But here comes one that made my speakers go nuts. Radiohead‘s awesome
guitarist Ed O’Brien remixed big boom banger Slidin’. He made it even more
explosive than the original.

Let’s roll…

RECORD STORE DAY(S) 2021 – June 12 And July 17

8 April 2021

This year RECORD STORE DAY will take place on two days: June 12 and July 17.

The organizers say in a press statement: “Things are improving but in this continued “unprecedented global situation”, where production and shipping is still in a state of struggle, the focus of these two Drops dates is on bringing revenue to the stores– as well as to the artists, labels, distribution and every other business behind the scenes making record stores work, in a fiscally and socially responsible way. The spread of titles over two dates in two months allows some flexibility for the struggling vinyl pressing plants and distribution companies as well as provide stores time to prepare budgets and place the orders that safely get music into the hands of customers on a larger than normal release day.”

The list of special issues (remixes, rarities, outtakes, vinyl, etc…)
includes work by artists such as St. Vincent, Prince, Steely Dan,
AC/DC, The Flaming Lips, Lady Gaga
, Beck, Bjôrk, Buzzcocks,
The Cure
and plenty more. Full (long) list here.

Impotent Veterans – Here’s THE OFFSPRING With Brand New Single ‘WE NEVER HAVE SEX ANYMORE’

7 April 2021

Californian mainstream punks THE OFFSPRING pick of the day? Seriously? Oh yeah,
for two reasons. One: when I heard their new single WE NEVE HAVE SEX ANYMORE
for the first time I couldn’t but think: ‘Oh My, the old motherrockers became impotent after
all these years of tons of sex, drugs and rock and roll
.” Laughter all the way. Two: musically the song sounds like a sad (I told you why) lullaby with heavy guitars. A tearjerker, right? Yep, a comic one.

I hope you’ll have as much fun as I had…

Blues Rock Tandem THE KILLS Released 4th Album ‘BLOOD PRESSURES’ 10 Years Ago

7 April 2021

Band: THE KILLS
Who: Blues-punk rockers Alison Mosshart (US) and Jamie Hince (UK)
who hit the scene 20 years ago, in 2001 / 5 albums (so far)

Album: BLOOD PRESSURES – 4th LP
Released: 5 April 2011 – 10 years ago

AllMusic / Heather Phares wrote: “Alison Mosshart leads the way on Blood Pressures,
her dynamic vocals demanding the spotlight whether she and Jamie Hince further streamline their familiar sound or carve out new territory… Blood Pressures is a darker, slower ride than Midnight Boom, but it shows the Kills can make subtle innovations as well as bold ones, and make them fit their signature sound to boot.”
Full review here. Score: 4/5.

Coming Soon… Second BLACK MIDI Album

7 April 2021

Band: BLACK MIDI
Who: Young tremendously compelling guitar-noise-explorers
from London scoring one of the best albums of 2019 with their
otherworldly debut Schlagenheim.

Album: CAVALCADE
Out: 28 May via Rough Trade
Order info: here

Info: Black Midi began writing music for a new album in late 2019, not long
after the release of their debut studio album, Schlagenheim, in June of that
year. The band chose to have a less improvisational approach to writing their
second studio album, in contrast to Schlagenheim which was crafted around
jam sessions.[1] Prior to the recording sessions for the album, guitarist Matt
Kwasniewski-Kelvin
took a break from the band, citing a need to focus on his
mental health, he took part in the writing sessions for Cavalcade, however.

And did I already mention that the frontwoman’s rushing rants are totally MENTAL?
She bellows as if she’s the devil’s girlfriend. At times I fear that she will scream herself

It’s The End Of The World As We Know It – CROSS WIRES Share New Thriller Called ’24 ROEHAMPTON STREET’

New sonic impulses…

7 April 2021

Last September British post-punks CROSS WIRES
played a live-stream gig in Chelmsford, Essex.

The band premiered two new songs. The skeletal live recordings,
with the help of some studio wizardry turned into two fully formed
tracks, with Jonathan Chapmann’s vocals recorded in the studio.

Last month our ears already got impressed with the impassioned and
poignant tour de force of The Death Of Dreamland. And here’s new
composition number two.

24 ROEHAMPTON STREET tells the story of a couple living out the last moments
of their lives during an apocalyptic event. A song inspired by 80s Nuclear War films Threads, When The Wind Blows and the Protect And Survive series.

24 Roehhampton Street is a punked-up blaze. A nuclear gloom and doom nightmare
realizing that humankind can destroy itself. Remember Nagasaki and Hiroshima?
By now the superpower nations as we know them are capable of blowing up our whole planet. Cross Wires translate that fear loud and clear with intense vocals à la Joe Strummer by frontman Chapman and also a short spoken fragment by, if my ears don’t fail me,
Baxter Dury.

Fiction is the new reality.

I was the drowning man
A hollow man
Waiting for the end
Eating time
