Turn Up The Volume: If you talk about the crème de la crème of psychedelic
music it would be a disgrace not to mention the BJTM. The psych-junk-gang
led by the acid son of Brian Jones’ ghost. Hands down!

Who: Irish vocalist Gillian NoVa and Brazilian composer Márcio Paz.
They blend electro-pop with atmospheric rock, aesthetically reminiscent
of Chromatics

New single: GROOTVATTA (feat. The System)

“Groovatta is an invitation to step inside the curious smoke, like an anxious
bird, flying to nowhere. Equally absent, equally present. Free-falling in a deep
ocean of reverb and climbing on the spine of an arpeggiator, to rediscover all
the things you will never live again and embrace the blank spaces of life, that
can become anything.

The track is a playful collage of sound and features
a distinctive sample from 80s, UK band The System.

Score: The soft moments of Chvrches and the soulfulness of Sade come
to mind. The ongoing synth riff throughout the trip has a hypnotic effect
and sensual vocals create a romantic mood with a cloud nine feel.

Canadian Heroes THE TRAGICALLY HIP Release New EP With Old Songs

Famous Canadian rockers from Kingston, Ontario
who hit the scene in 1984. released 13 albums, and
called it a day when they sadly lost their frontman
Gord Downie who passed away in 2017.

Out of the blue, The Hip unleashed this new 6-track EP of previously
unreleased songs from 1990. Five tracks were actually recorded their
1991 LP Road Apples, which was to be called Saskadelphia, but the
label bosses thought it was a ‘too Canadian’ title.

Rob Baker (guitarist): “I went ‘Wow’ when I heard ‘Ouch’ after all
this time. We were a pretty good little band.”

Johnny Fay (drummer): “We didn’t know what was there, so this meant
baking them and listening to them as they were being transferred. Hearing
them for the first time in 30 years was crazy.”

Gord Sinclair (bassist): “We are, sadly, never going to have the chance
to put out new stuff. For us, in our minds, this is new.”

Turn Up The Volume: Six vintage power strokes. I know, it’s only classic
guitar rock but injected with a fervor and fury blues force which made the
Hip such a beloved and highly praised band.

Towering Emo Outburst – Listen To ‘FEAR OF FALLING’ By British Indie Rockers TEN EIGHTY TREES

Nathan (singer/guitarist): “It’s about my experiences with PTSD. I had a pretty horrific accident about 4 years ago and really struggled with sleep deprivation in the aftermath.
I would feel like I was on red alert, unable to switch off and agitated by even the slightest
sound when I was trying to relax. It was such a tough repercussion and put a lot of stress
on my life and relationships. Writing Fear of Falling was my own personal therapy as I
worked through understanding what was happening to me.”

Score: What an emotional outburst! What a towering ebullition! You actually can
feel the passion, the discharge, and the heave-ho at play here accentuated by the
high-pressure vocals exploding in a sky-high chorus. The immense intensity is off the charts. Add metallic guitar flashes and a pumping beat and what you get is a blaring
belter that catapults all the inner demons through the roof. Bang-on!

Awesome School Teens THE LINDA LINDAS Make Furor With Riot Grll Punk Anthem ‘RACIST, SEXIST BOY’

Band: THE LINDA LINDAS (Los Angeles)
Who: Awesome female teen band Half Asian/Half Latinx
featuring Mila (10), Eloise (13), Lucia (14) and Bela (16) who
play together since 2018 (!) and already opened as support
act for punk icons like Bikini Kill and Best Coast.

Track: RACIST, SEXIST BOY

A song inspired by a real-life racist incident as the utterly cool
10-year old drummer Mila explains: “A little while before we went
into lockdown a boy in my class came up to me and said his Dad had
told him to stay away from Chinese people. After I told him I was Chinese
he backed away from me. So Eloise and I wrote this song based on that
experience.”

The school teens premiered their new punk anthem in the Los Angeles
Public Library, which has been hosting a TEENtastic Tuesdays Series of
concerts, celebrating AAPI (that’s Asian American and Pacific Islander)
Month.

Score: This is awesome. I love this. Young kids standing up and making a
sharp-cutting, alarming statement about racism and sexism with a spot-on,
in your face, punk anthem à la Bikini Kill. This clear-cut, and totally fun, riot
grrl ripper is fueled by young spirits saying ‘move over, adults, rock and roll
belongs to the young generations, not the old ones and definitely not to
the racist ones and the sexist ones.’ You betcha!
