Beatle GEORGE HARRISON organized a pair of benefit concerts on the same day,
1 August 1971, in Madison Square (New York City) to raise attention and money for the people and families of victims of the genocide during the Bangladesh Liberation War in March 1971.
He invited several of his famous friends. Ravi Shankar, Bob Dylan, Ringo
Starr, Billy Preston, Eric Clapton, Ravi Shankar,, Leon Russell, and more.
The following year a triple album THE CONCERT FOR BANGLADESH
was released and topped the UK’s albums chart on 29 January 1972,
50 years ago today.
