JEFF TWEEDY And WILCO Launched New Double Album ‘CRUEL COUNTRY’

New longplayers

JEFF TWEEDY and his band WILCO
launch their 12th studio album today.
A double one called Cruel Country.

It features 21 Jeff Tweedy-penned tracks,
made almost entirely of live takes,
created with all six members together.

Pitchfork says: “On a 21-track double album recorded live in the studio, Wilco embrace
a simple, buoyant approach that hearkens back to Jeff Tweedy’s earliest work… There may
be a gentle current flowing through its 21 songs, but the sheer abundance can also feel overwhelming. As lovely as they often are, the songs seem to drift and float, and Cruel
Country plays less like a sculpted double album than a vividly detailed snapshot of a
particular moment in time.”
Score: 7/10.

Turn Up The Volume: Chicago songsmith Jeff Tweedy and his amigos are experts of electrical country music as they prove once more on this double LP. But as it often happens with double albums they’re too long which makes the quality go downwards.
Also here, it would have been a lot better to select the 11 best songs on 1 longplayer.

Happy 65 SIOUXSIE SIOUX

27 May 2022

Susan Janet Ballion, best known of course as SIOUXSIE SIOUX
the voice and face of her band The Banshees was born on
27 May 1957 in London.

Happy 65 to the Goth queen of punk. One of the most
charismatic and drop-dead gorgeous rock stars ever.

With The Banshees she recorded/released 11 studio albums.
With her husband Budgie, she made two LPs under the moniker
of The Creatures. And in 2007 she released her only criminally
underrated, solo longplayer Mantaray.

Exploring The Dark Electronic Side Of The Moon With CODE And Their New Symphony ‘ACHERON’

New striking strokes

27 May 2022

Band: CODE
Who: British electronic quartet that earned their
stripes in the electronic scene of the early 1990s.

New album: CONTINUUM
Release: 24 June 2022 – pre-order info here

“Continuum’ has been assembled by remodelling material from archived studio sessions and sounds like it could have been made yesterday. Emotionally engaging and exquisitely produced, it is timeless music that, although carrying traces of influences such as Kraftwerk, The Blue Nile, Talk Talk, David Sylvian and Depeche Mode, also has a romantic techno intensity all of its own.”

New single: ACHERON
The follow-up to lead single Pleasure

Acheron is known in Greek mythology as the ‘river of lost souls, although sci-fi fans are likely to be more familiar with Acheron (LV-426), one of three moons orbiting the gas giant Calpamos. It was here that a crew member of the USCSS Nostromo first discovered the eggs of a species of alien that would go on to spawn a highly successful movie franchise.

Turn Up The Volume says: If Pink Floyd would have been a full synth orchestra
they would have sounded like this. Ambient, atmospheric, spacey, and futuristic.

Acheron moves and grooves like an eagle flying in slo-mo high up there in the sky.
The song’s layered symphonic orchestration creates a cinematic sound trip. This is
what chimeric dream music is about, music to lose your psyche in.

Ladies and gentlemen, we’re floating in space
towards the dark electronic side of the moo.

Sometimes Indie Soul Quartet ONISM E Wants To Scream – Hear Their New Single ‘LIN MANUEL’ Here

Daily electricity to load your batteries

27 May 2022

Band: ONISM E
Who: Full-hearted indie quartet based in New York, fronted
by impassioned singer/songwriter voice Eline Chavez

New single: LIN MANUEL

Eline Chavez: I wrote it during the pandemic. It’s about the everyday struggle
where I question my place in this industry. “What am I doing? Should I keep playing?
Should I keep working towards this goal?” I know it’s a common artist struggle but
during the pandemic, that voice got louder and I started questioning my next steps.

Turn Up The Volume: First things first. With last year’s glorious crackerjack Stay
Onism E topped Turn Up The Volume’s best-knockouts list of 2021. A titillating tower
of a song from their excellent debut LP Survivors and still frequently playing on my headphones.

And here comes their first new music of 2022 with fresh piece Lin Manuel.
An introspective Chavez quest in which she questions her artistic future while
a sparkling guitar gently weeps. The tone is blue, and the timbre is shady.

This is modern-day indie-soul music with Chavez‘ anxious vocality
as the driving force of a band that cares. Stay, guys.
