BUZZKILL JOY Shares Intense Video For His Anti-Power Abusers Single ‘MONEY MONEY MONKEY’

26 September 2022

Artist: BUZZKILL JOY
Who: A genre-fluid lil punk in pink from the North of England that always aims to
energise, inspire and surprise. His rules are: difference is mandatory, meaning is a must, and constant evolution is necessary. fusing genres like rock, indie, pop, punk, folk, hip hop and anything else that takes my fancy, he’ll keep you second guessing and surprised with every new track he puts out – and that’s a buzzkill guarantee.

New single/video: MONEY MONEY MONKEY

BJ: This is the big one. “The one I’ve been dying to share ever since I first wrote it back in 2020. It’s an angry, heartfelt fuck you to the fat cats and big whigs that abuse their power and leave us with scraps. Wwritten 2 years ago but has never been so fuckin relevant.”

Sickly sticky tune. Intense video clip, without arty farty effects nor with a tsunami of
rapid-eye-movement causing shots. Just a clear-cut visualizing of the song’s theme
with Buzzkill Joy going insane in the money-greedy-monkeys’ jail.

Don’t let the money hold you, hostage

A Call Me Wake-Up Call

in the UK this day in 1980 with CALL ME (more than 300 million streams

Call Me also topped the charts in the US where
it became the band’s biggest-selling single.

I wouldn’t mind waking up with Debbie

Post-Breakup Album – BECK Released ‘SEACHANGE’ 20 Years Ago

Back in time

25 September 2022

Artist: BECK
Born Bek David Campbell 52 years ago
Active: Since 1988 / 14 studio LPs (so far)

Anniversary album: SEACHANGE – his 8th LP
Released: 24 September 2002 – 20 years ago

Rolling Stone said: “It’s the best album Beck has ever made, and it sounds like he’s paid dearly for the achievement. He reportedly wrote these twelve wine-dark songs after breaking up with his longtime girlfriend… The Nick Drake and Syd Barrett comparisons are not idle flattery. Just as Mutations was Beck’s homage to Tropicalia — Brazil’s late-1960s revolution in art, sound and romanticism — Sea Change suggests that Beck has been studying the British early-1970s school of psychedelic-comedown melancholy… As a young folk singer at the turn of the Nineties, Beck set out to be his own Dylan. With Sea Change, he has made it the hard way, creating an impeccable album of truth and light from the end of love. This is his Blood on the Tracks.” Score: 5/5.

7-Inch History – THE ADVERTS 1977

Great 7″ singles/sleeves/vinyl

25 September 2022

Band: THE ADVERTS
Who: 4 punks from London, with
pin-up punkette Gaye Advert on bass
Active: 1976-1979 / 2 studio LPs

Single: GARY GILMORE’S EYES
Released in 1977. Peaked at #18 on the UK Singles Chart.

The song was written from the point of view of a person who got an
eye transplant and discovers that he has the eyes of an American
criminal named Gary Gilmore, who got the death penalty for two
murders. Gilmore wanted his eyes be donated to science after his
execution as “they’d probably be the only body part usable”.

Impassioned Blues Veteran HERMAN HITSON Lets The God Sings

Standout longplayers

25 September 2022

Artist: HERMAN HITSON
Who: Veteran blues/rock musician born
79 years ago in Atlanta, Georgia.

Hitson has lived a wild life, learning the blues growing up and then starting in a doo-wop band, hitting the chitlin circuit with the likes of James Brown, Joe Tex, Bobby Womack, Wilson Pickett, Sam Cooke, Lee Moses;, collaborating with his close friend Jimi Hendrix, and then mourning his loss. Converting to the Nation of Islam and hanging with Mohammad Ali, getting clean from hard drugs; working as an actor in films. Getting wrongly accused of murder. Painting as well as performing and opening for the Allman Bros with Lee Moses.

He’s in a renaissance the last few years with the brand new album LET THE GODS SING
as the clear-cut result. The rousing 60s are all over it. Electrifying Hendrix-like wah-wah jams, sultry James Brown howls, lots of psychedelic Hammond organs and an overall
soul-and-heart spirit. There’s no expiration date whatsoever for impassioned blues
passion like this.

Waking Up… With LOU REED On A Sunday Morning In 2004

1967 classic Sunday Morning – written by Lou Reed – is the best-known song
by The Velvet Underground (more than 300 million streams on Spotify).
It featured on their intoxicating debut LP.

I stumbled by accident on this mesmeric version with the late genial Lou Reed playing
it live in 2004 on The Late Show With David Letterman’ at the Ed Sullivan Theatre NYC.

Riveting!
