British Indies WEIMAR Have Their Halloween Video Out For Grisly Story ‘THE HANGERS-ON’

30 October 2022

Band: WEIMAR (pronounced Vy-marr – nothing to do
with Germany’s former Weimar Republic I suppose)

Who: Eclectic progressive art-rock quartet formed in 2016 in
Manchester (UK). They produce a range of styles from post-punk roots
to no-wave, cabaret, chanson, jazz, funk, psychedelia, alternative folk
and gothic rock, coming together in a distinctive fusion.

The band have their Halloween moment too with a scary video for THE HANGERS-ON,
a grisly story off their excellent album Dancing On A Volcano, that came out last June.

A carnivalesque Art Rock tune, a depraved foray into the twisted mentality of a stalker,
and people who present themselves as being your best friend yet blatantly have far more sinister intentions. The music reflects this, it has a lush gentle sound in places but is menacing and eerie at the same time.

Don’t trust clowns around Halloween time…

Best Video Of October 2022 – THE CHRONICLES OF SAMARA AND MANIMAL

29 October 2022

Artists: THE CHRONICLES OF MANIMAL AND SAMARA

Who: London-based duo – Daphne Ang (Singapore) and
Andrea Papi
(Italy) – that fills a gap in music by bringing
literature, art, and history together into a space where
rock and metal meet electronica.

This experimental tandem released their sophomore LP
TRUST NO LEADERS last July. A notable follow-up to their
stunning debut Trust No Leaders. You can buy here.

Turn Up The Volume said: One of the fascinating songs on the LP is THE PIED PIPER. It resonates like a sort of religious chant, not about a God but about the people all around the world oppressed by corrupt politicians and greedy rich people. 2022 looks more and more like George Orwell’s 1984.

The video TCOMAS launched mid-October is another visual tour de force. I said it several times before and I’ll repeat it again. This duo are ingenious architects in sound and vision and in all of their artwork. As DIY artists the inexhaustible energy, imagination, and passion they put into their work is nothing less than astonishing.

Open your eyes and watch
modern-day slavery…

SHOW ME THE BODY With Sturm Und Drang On New Longplayer ‘TROUBLE THE WATER’

Standout longplayers

29 October 2022

Band: SHOW ME THE BODY
Who: Hardcore squad from New York
Active: Since 2009 / 3 studio LPs (new one included)

New album: TROUBLE THE WATER
Released: 28 October 2022 / Order info: here

The Guardian: “Homage to band’s native New York welds subgenres from hardcore
to hip-hop in a cathartic release from volatile times…Shivering with tension, Trouble
The Water is an exciting and urgent call to come together and kick off – at once
a reflection of, and a cathartic release from, volatile times.”

TUTV: This dragon has several heads. A hardcore one, a metal hip-hop one,
a crossover one, a post-punk one and a melting noise pot one. The tone is
vicious, the sentiments are fired-up, the big picture is one of rebelling against
all sorts of evil that fucks up this planet. A long battle, but we have no choice.

Rock Amazon KATE CLOVER Will Walk With Her Boots All Over Belgium Tomorrow

28 October 2022

Artist: KATE CLOVER
Who: A singer-songwriter-musician from Los Angeles, CA. From the local lineage
of bands like X, Germs and The Gun Club to the glamorous poverty of the streets
of L.A. Clover is inspired by the city that raised her and she explores the intricacies
of self-discovery, self-creation and self-preservation, in the city where dreams are
born to die.

Just a couple of weeks ago she released new single You’re Phone’s
Of The Hook
. A brisk head-over-heels rockin’ ripper. Check it out here.

And earlier this year she recorded, featuring Warren Thomas, a cracking
cover of Nancy Sinatra‘s classic THESE BOOTS ARE MADE FOR WALKING .

Her glorious take is pretty special. Its rotating rockabilly riff brings The Cramps
back to live and injects the classic with a psychedelic vibe. But there’s more to it.
Midway a reverberating six-string creeps into the song, here and there I hear
sultry echoes of a 60s Hammond organ and Clover sounds as sensual as 60s
icon Nancy Sinatra. Top version.

Tomorrow Clover plays at the Badlands Festival in my hometown of
Ghent, Belgium. I wouldn’t mind if she walked with her boots all over me.

Here we go…
