which is set to be released on August 11 via BMG.

THE PRETENDERS Joined By Riot-Gun Drummer DAVE GROHL And JOHNNY MARR At Glastonbury Yesterday For ‘TATTOOED LOVE BOYS’

This year’s legendary British Glastonbury Festival edition is in full swing.
And as happens frequently, artists invite other artists to join them for a
couple of songs.

That’s what CHRISSIE HYNDE and THE PRETENDERS did yesterday. They invited
foo fighter Dave Grohl, who hit his drumsticks as if he was shooting a riot gun,
and former The Smiths‘ guitar hero Johnny Marr (who used to play live for a while
with The Pretenders, years ago).

All together, they went for a stormy version The Pretenders‘ rocker
TATTOOED LOVE BOYS (from their 1980 self-titled debut LP).

Active: Since 2006 / 9 LPs so far (new one incl.)

New album: CHRIS BLACK SAVED MY LIFE
The LP is dedicated to the band’s longtime friend and
the album’s namesake Chris Black, who died in May 2019.

AllMusic says: “The album is named after the group’s close-friend, filmmaker Chris Black,
who toured with them in 2016 as a kind of unofficial DJ and hypeman and who died tragically in 2019 just as his career was taking shape. With Chris Black Changed My Life, the have crafted a warm and hooky homage to their friend it’s a vibe that sticks with you.”

Spiritual Psychedelia In Motion – Great MERCURY REV Gig In A Belgian Park On A Hot Summer Night

How great to see – for the 15th time – one of my all-time bands,
on record and on stage play again. MERCURY REV formed in 1989
in Buffalo New York.

Their first three LPs (Yerself Is Steam – 1991 / Boces – 1993 / See You
On The Other Side – 1995) were dope-infused psych rock-out records.

With goosebumps vocalist and co-songwritter Jonathan Donahue
(who
also played for 2 years with fairytale eccentrics The Flaming Lips) and musical
orchestrator Grasshopper (born Sean Thomas Mackowiak) as the beating heart
of the Rev, another 5 albums followed, with The Light In You as the most recent
one, released in 2015. Stream on Spotify.

Last night – 23 June – was another psychedelic experience, another spiritual happening
in a beautiful park in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium. Can’t ask for more on a hot summer night, a holiday atmosphere, and all spectators with a smile on their faces.

A perfect time and place to see/hear/enjoy Rev again playing symphonic pearls such as Holes, Tonite It Shows, Goddess On A Hiway and The Dark Is Rising, but also magnific covers of Flaming Lips and Peter Gabriel songs.

As spellbinding as 21 years ago

Frontman Jonathan Donahue thanked, in a heart-touching way, the audience for showing up. As humble as ever. Thank you Jonathan, thank you Grasshopper, thank you Mercury Rev.

DAVE GROHL Freaks Out With THE CHURNUPS Yesterday At Glastonbury Festival While Playing ‘PRETENDER’

It looked like the British big Glastonbury Festival was just one of the few
massive rock events that didn’t book FOO FIGHTERS this year until a band
introduced as THE CHURNUPS took the stage yesterday at 6:15PM local time
on the first day of G Fest 2023.

Band: BIRDMAN CULT
Who: An alternative Bristol (UK) quintet that have been peddling their original blend
of hook-heavy, Post-Punk Garage-rock since 2020. The band are named in part after
The Birdman Cult, an ancient religious sect who inhabited Easter Island until they were suppressed by Christian missionaries in the 1860s.

New single: MAIDEN, MOTHER, CRONE

Joe Eden: (frontman): “Each verse is a dedication to the women in my life. Being a son, husband, and most recently a new father had me reflecting on my relationships with my mother, daughter, and wife. I had a moment of realisation around what they mean to me and began to think about how I was witnessing three stages of female roles from the standpoint of the male in their lives. These three figures are often described as the Maiden, the Mother, and the Crone in common Neopagan usage. Each of which symbolises a separate stage in the female life cycle.”

Birdman Cult do the same for 3 special women, the Maiden, the Mother, and the Crone. Soundwise do not expect a smooth Nelson-like tune, on the contrary, what you get here
is a cast iron haymaker fed by maddening drumming, a mental bass riff, Led Zep guitar hooks, and cocky vocals. Raw, rough, and reckless. A manic motherrocker.

Just what you need to test the resilience of your stereo. Open your windows
and doors and invite the neighbourhood for a berserk shebang

Happy 79 To Guitar Virtuoso JEFF BECK

JEFF BECK was born named Geoffrey Arnold Beck in East-Sussex, England
on 24 June 1944. He would have celebrated his 79th birthday.

He started his career with 60s blues beat band The Yardbirds (who also
had Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton in their changing line-ups). In 1967 he started
his own band The Jeff Beck Group originally with Rod Stewart as the singer and
Ronnie Wood on guitar. The JBG recorded 3 albums.

As a solo artist Beck released 11 LPs with Loud Hailer as his final
one, released in 2016. He also recorded with many other artists.

Awesome performance on the Letterman Show in 1999.

Unfortunately, Beck was passed away early this year on 10 January
following a bacterial meningitis infection.
