The iconic CBGB club – Country, Blue Grass and Blues – opened its doors in the lower eastside of New York City, 50 years ago today, on 10 December 1973. It was originally intended to feature its namesake musical styles, but became a legendary performance club for American punk and New Wave bands such as Blondie, Television, Patti Smith, Richard Hell, Talking Heads and Ramones.
The club closed its doors on 15 October 2006.
