Best Reissue Of 2023 – BOB DYLAN With Live Album ‘THE COMPLETE BUDOKAN 1978’ Originally Released 45 Years Ago

26 December 2023

THE COMPLETE BUDOKAN 1978 presents two full shows originally
recorded on 24-channel multitrack analog tapes at the famous Nippon
Budokan Hall
in Japan, 45 years ago.

It includes 36 previously unreleased Dylan performances from these concerts.

Order info here.

UNCUT Mag: “Some fans just seemed to hate the original version released in 1979 very, very much. But listening to this expanded edition – featuring the two full concerts from which the original was compiled – the reaction is, “What’s the problem?” Dylan sings his heart out.”
Score: 8/10.

TUTV: The majority of the songs here are played differently from their original versions. Dylan always loved (and still does, as I witnessed several times ) to turn his songs upside down, play them slower or faster or in another, surprising key on stage.

Add the horn sections here at work and lots of choir vocals and you get quite some riveting interpretations of great pieces from his 17 longplayers, he had released by
then.

It doesn’t work all the time, and there are too many songs – 58 – packed in this reissue
box (many record labels prefer quantity to quality). I picked the 25 best-executed ones, and made me a formidable historic live album.

New BOB MARLEY Photo Book With Rare Shots Titled ‘REBEL MUSIC: BOB MARLEY & ROOTS REGGAE’ Is Out Now

26 December 2023

REBEL MUSIC: BOB MARLEY & ROOTS REGGAE is brand new photo book with rare shots
of reggae trailblazer BOB MARLEY taken by American photographer KATE SIMON

You can purchase a copy HERE.

In 1975, Kate Simon first photographed Bob Marley and the Wailers at the Lyceum in
London, where the now-legendary live performance of No Woman, No Cry was recorded. They then collaborated throughout the Seventies, with Simon shooting some of the most intimate, enduring and emblematic images ever taken of Marley, including his iconic Kaya album cover

Simon captured it all: portraits of the reggae greats of the Seventies, such as Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, Bunny Wailer and Peter Tosh; the Exodus Tour, on the road with Bob Marley and The Wailers as they performed across Europe.

And the One Love Peace Concert, where Bob famously united Jamaica‘s opposing political leaders. Ultimately, in 1981, Simon would ride with the funeral cortege from Kingston to
St Ann and Bob Marley‘s final resting place.

Rebel Music contains over 400 photographs from Simon‘s archives, many published here for the first time. Introduced by Patti Smith, with a foreword by Lenny Kravitz and afterword by Keith Richards.

A cast of 24 contributors join Simon in sharing the stories behind the images, including
ex-Wailers guitarist Junior Marvin and bass player and band leader Aston ‘Family Man’ Barrett; musicians such as Junior Delgado, Steve Jordan, Paul Simonon and Bruce Springsteen; filmmaker Don Letts and producer Danny Sims; and Island Records founder, Chris Blackwell.

BIGHEAD TEA DRINKERS – The Best Band With The Worst Name Hit With New Slam ‘HOURS’

Daily electricity to load your batteries

26 December 2023

Band: BIGHEAD TEA DRINKERS
Who: Young hit team from Brighton and Hove, UK describing
themselves as “The best band with the worst name.” Lol.

New single: HOURS

Marshall (drummer/producer): “This song is better than anything we have
done before, I think. Our sound has massively matured since we came together,
and ‘Hours’ is the first of what we have to offer in this new era of our band.”

TUTV: These young gunslingers burst with ebullient energy and greedy gusto
as if they want to conquer the world, right here, right now. Hours is a pithy power
pop melody, swaying forth and back, and fired up by an army of fervent guitars,
muscular drumming, zealous vocals and a killer chorus. BTD is definitely going
places. Keep an ear on them.

New Albums In 2024 – GRANDADDY Have Their 6th One ‘BLU WAV’ Out On 16 February

25 December 2023

Californian daydreamers GRANDADDY, now centred more than ever
around, singer-songwriter Jason Lytle give birth to their 6th longplayer,
named BLU WAV on 16 February 2024. Pre-order info here.

Press info: “A prolific storyteller, Jason Lytle is inspired by the overwhelming beauty of nature to the mundane moments that spark life’s strongest memories. With the album title Blu Wav meant to be a literal mash-up of “bluegrass” and “new wave”, the new collection has a distinct feel, a uniform vibe, and a somewhat unexpected sound.

It was conceived as Grandaddy maestro Jason Lytle was driving through the Nevada desert, and Patti Page’s “Tennessee Waltz” came across the classic country station on the radio. He was immediately intrigued by the possibilities of what it might sound like to keep the slow sway and sweet, simple lyrics of the bluegrass waltz while adding layers of dense synthesizers and the electronics of new wave. It incorporates the lo-fi lushness and sometimes-psychedelic orchestration Grandaddy is known for with Lytle’s first foray into true country. Seven of its 13 songs are waltzes, and as Lytle notes, “there’s an inordinate amount of pedal steel.

Our ears already enjoyed 2 tracks. Two relaxing reveries, two
observative musings, carried by Lytle‘s near-whispering vocals.

25 December 2023

Press photo

British rockers FRANK CARTER & THE RATTLESNAKES launch their
5th LP, baptized DARK RAINBOW on 26 January 2024. More info here.

Press info: “The Rattlesnakes have built a reputation for blistering anthems that owe
as much to brooding desert rock as it does hardcore and power-pop. They’re redefining punk-rock with a sound that straddles eras and genres, putting The Rattlesnakes in a category all their own, while also challenging tired cliches and setting the world to rights.”

Album artwork

The first two singles show the softer side, sonically that is, of post-hardcore punk
and tattoo artist Carter and his sidekick. Power balladry at its sensitive best.
