Daily noise that works faster than any stimulant

25 December 2023

DEBBIE HARRY and CHRIS STEIN teamed up 2 years ago with hip-hop pioneer
FAB 5 FREDDY
(real name: Fred Brathwaite) for an Xmas rework of Blondie‘s 1981
hit The Rapture and named it Yuletide Throwdown.

Debbie: “It has been an impossible amount of time since I believed
in Santa Claus, but I could very well believe again if he was Freddy
Brathwaite!!”

Funky.
Vibey.
Bass-y.

Rap it up, folks.
Happy Xmas.

New Albums In 2024 – Goth Diva CHELSEA WOLFE Releases Her 7th LP On 9 February

24 December 2024

New album artwork

Californian Goth diva CHELSEA WOLFE
has, so far, released 6 LPs.

Her 7th one, titled SHE REACHES OUT TO SHE REACHES OUT TO SHE
will arrive next year on 9 February. Pre-order info here.

Press info: “Chelsea Wolfe’s latest album, She Reaches Out To She Reaches Out To She, is a rebirth in process. It’s about how such a moment connects to our past, our present, and our future. It’s a powerfully cathartic statement about cutting ties, as well as an important reminder that healing is cyclical and circular, and not a simple linear process. As Wolfe explains, “It’s a record about the past self reaching out to the present self reaching out to the future self to summon change, growth, and guidance. It’s a story of setting yourself free from situations and patterns that are holding you back, in order to become self-empowered. It’s an invitation to step into your authenticity.”

She already disclosed 3 tracks. All pure Wolfe. Mysterious and enigmatic.

BAD MOVES – Power Pop Indies Have A Holiday Low On Their New Earworm ‘NEW YEAR’S REPRIEVE’

New striking strokes

24 December 2023

Promo photo by Rediscover Fire Booking

Washington‘s power pop indies BAD MOVES are gearing up for their 3rd LP with
its first single, titled NEW YEAR’S REPRIEVE, which is billed as a pessimistic holiday anthem.

“There are too few pessimistic holiday songs generally, and even fewer pessimistic
New Year’s Eve songs specifically. “New Year’s Reprieve” is Bad Moves’ contribution towards filling that shortage. It’s a song about following your lowest lows with your highest highs and about the inevitable comedowns the mornings after. It’s about asking the question, “Over a lifetime, will you see more highs than lows?” and knowing either answer is disingenuous. Still, in a time of year marked by compulsory optimism, the lows can hit harder than ever — and that’s something worth singing about. We hope this song will sit well next to “Fairytale of New York” (rest in power Shane and Kirsty) on a depressing holiday mixtape for someone out there.”

TUTV: For all of us who hate the yearly commercial feel good fakery surrounding
the Xmas/New Year’s holidays Bad Moves‘ new earworm is what you want and need
to experience a feel sad reality.

On the other hand, if you ignore the lyrics, you will shake your hips along to the sassy sway of this guitar/bass/drum loaded belter, and you’ll feel good again. It actually has a country rock vibe that swings forth and back with irresistible swagger. Vivid vocals and a ridiculous, infectious chorus. It’s your choice. Feeling low or high these days. Either way, this is a great move.

R.I.P. RICK PARFITT – ‘Status Quo’ Guitarist Passed Away 7 Years Ago Today

24 December 2024

(photo by Turn Up The Volume! Ostend 2015)

Why do I remember RICK PARFITT here every year since he passed away
7 years ago today, on 24 December. Because he was the 24/7 blonde God
riff-king of legendary 12-bar boogie rockers STATUS QUO.

And? Well, I saw the Quo about thirty times live. Am I serious? Absolutely
It was always no-nonsense, sweaty head-banging fun. And I liked-liked-liked-it,
rockin’ all over the world

Just like here with a let your hair hang down and boogie
live TV version of Down The Dustpipe in 1970 with the
audience in a coma.

THE CLASH In Colours 45 Years Ago

Talking about colored vinyl.

7 different ones for their 1978 single (45 years ago)
(WHITE MAN) IN HAMMERSMITH PALAIS

One, two
One, two, three, four

Midnight to six man
For the first time from Jamaica
Dillinger and leroy smart
Delroy wilson, your cool operator

Ken boothe for UK pop reggae
With backing bands sound systems
If they’ve got anything to say
There’s many black ears here to listen

But it was four tops all night with encores from stage righten (wooh, ooh, ooh)
Charging from the bass knives to the treble (wooh, ooh, ooh)
But onstage they ain’t got no roots rock rebel (wooh, ooh, ooh)
Onstage they ain’t got no roots rock rebel

Dress back jump back this is a bluebeat attack
‘Cos it won’t get you anywhere
Fooling with the gun
The british army is waiting out there
An’ it weighs fifteen hundred tons

White youth, black youth
Better find another solution
Why not phone up robin hood
And ask him for some wealth distribution

Punk rockers in the UK
They won’t notice anyway
They’re all too busy fighting
For a good place under the lighting

The new groups are not concerned
With what there is to be learned
They got burton suits, huh, you think it’s funny
Turning rebellion into money

All over people changing their votes
Along with their overcoats
If Adolf Hitler flew in today
They’d send a limousine anyway

I’m the all night drug-prowling wolf
Who looks so sick in the sun
I’m the white man in the palais
Just loo- lookin’ for fun
Only lookin’ for fun

Oh, please mister
Just leave me alone
I’m only
Lookin’ for fun
Lookin’ for fun
F, U, N

New Albums In 2024 – Dinosaur J. MASCIS With 5th Solo Longplayer ‘WHAT DO WE DO NOW’ On 2 February

23 December 2023

📷 by Jeffrey Fowler

Dinosaur JR maestro J MASCIS (born Joseph Donald Mascis Jr.
57 years ago Massachusetts) goes solo again, for the 5th time.

His new album WHAT DO WE DO NOW lands
on 2 February 2024. More info here.

Album artwork

Mascis: “When I’m writing for the band. I’m always trying to think of doing things Lou and Murph would fit into. For myself, I’m thinking more about what I can do with just an acoustic guitar, even for the leads. Of course, this time, I added full drums and electric leads, although the rhythm parts are still all acoustic. Usually, I try to do the solo stuff more simply so I can play it by myself, but I really wanted to add the drums. Once that started, everything else just fell into place. So it ended up sounding a lot more like a band record. I dunno why I did that exactly, but it’s just what happened.”

So far, Mascis gave us two tasters.

Picture This – Artwork For First LIAM GALLAGHER / JOHN SQUIRE Single ‘JUST ANOTHER RAINBOW’

23 December 2023

Photo by Turn Up The Volume

Our kid, former Oasis frontman LIAM GALLAGHER and Stone Roses
guitarist JOHN SQUIRE teamed up to make new music together.
Can’t wait to hear it.

The superstar duo canned an album and will drop the first single,
titled JUST ANOTHER RAINBOW, on January 5 with “more new music
to follow as the year unfolds.”

Liam: “The melodies are mega! Best album since Revolver.”

And this is the artwork for the single. Pretty lame, if you ask me.
