Washington‘s longtime rollin’ indie-pop-punk stars SLEATER-KINNEY
who started their journey (with 3 members) back in 1994, went on a
break in 2006, reloaded their engines in 2014, became a duo – Carrie
Brownstein and Corin Tucker – have their new, 10th LP, baptized Little
Rope out on 19 January 2024.

Doherty: “’Shiver’ is very much from Doherty/Barât, where I would probably find it
difficult to work out who did what because we were both there the whole time through
its creation. It should really be called ‘The Last Dream Of Every Dying Soldier,’ but
everyone liked the title ‘Shiver.’”

wrote an updated soundtrack for Stanley Kubrick‘s 1968 classic SF movie 2001: A Space Odyssey. Well, at least that’s what my impressed ears
tell me.
It feels and resonates as if Oogan recorded this bewildering, wriggling synth paranoia
in Dante Alighieri‘s inferno studio. Enigmatic, spooky but also chillingly entertaining.
Put your headphones on at midnight, get out, watch the doomed stars in the pitch-black sky and play Helios Mahina Oogan. It’s the end of the world as we know it, and we feel fine.
Experimental Irish new wave mavericks VIRGIN PRUNES were known as “the most
overtly subversive rock group ever to come out of the genre.” Their reputation was built
on outrageous stage performances and a unique collection of record releases. The
band disbanded in 1986 after co-founder and driving force Gavin Friday left to pursue
a solo career.
In 1983 the band had a compilation album out A New Form of Beauty Parts 1-4
featuring 7″single A New Form of Beauty 1 (A plus B-sides), 10″ single A New Form of
Beauty 2, four-song 12″ EP A New Form of Beauty 3 and a cassette A New Form of Beauty 4 .

TUTV: Irresistible drive. Fast-forward flow. Heartening vocals. Atomic is an unadulterated pop gem. A sprightly summer song for freezing winters like this. It could have easily been
a bonus track on Miles Kane‘s newest, perky album One Man Band.
And it’s not because shoegazers Ride‘s frontman Mark Gardner remixed the track (but it was definitely a clue) that Ride‘s brand-new single Peace Sign also has a similar jaunty pace and vice versa, of course. Anyway Atomic has an atomic single out with a sky-high starry-eyed bliss. Run to them.
