This years RECORD STORE DAY stages its 17th edition (damn, time flies supersonically).
As all music junkies know RSD celebrates independent record stores around the world.

That day you can buy special vinyl releases (most of them have a limited edition) from a loooooong list of artists/bands such as 10000 Maniacs, Tricky, Alex Chilton, The 1975, David Bowie, Daft Punk, Blur, The Beat, The Doors, Billy Bragg, Black Sabbath, Lily Allen, Gorillaz, De La Soul, Def Leppard, Elton John, Paramore and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, also a ton of releases of lesser-known names.

IMUSTBE LEONARDO – Berlin Based Italian Singer-Songwriter Disappointed By ‘NICHOLAS PALACE’

Artist: IMUSTBE LEONARDO
Who: Berlin-based Italian singer-songwriter who, since 2016, has composed, recorded, and played songs around Europe and America. He has so far, 2 albums and 2 EPs on his résumé.

New single: NICHOLAS PALACE
From his upcoming 3rd album, named not to be scared of the weekend.

Leonardo: “I wrote this song after reading Nick Cave‘s reply (note: read below) to some of
his fans, who had asked him why he was about to attend the coronation of the UK’s king as
part of the Australian delegation. I love most of Nick Cave’s records and I consider him one
of the greatest songwriters ever.

Nevertheless, I couldn’t help feeling offended by the arrogant tone he adopted at the beginning of his text (“I’ll make this a quick one because I’ve got to work out what I am going to wear to the Coronation”), and by the word “demented” he used to describe his young self – who not only was the best version of the artist named Nick Cave, but is also the reason itself why the current Nick Cave was invited to that ceremony.”

Cave: “I am not a monarchist, nor am I a royalist, nor am I an ardent republican for that matter; what I am also not is so spectacularly incurious about the world and the way it works, so ideologically captured, so damn grouchy, as to refuse an invitation to what will more than likely be the most important historical event in the UK of our age. Not just the most important, but the strangest, the weirdest.” Full statement here.

TUTV: I’m also a long-time Nick Cave fan. A truly remarkable artist. But attending King Charles‘ coronation? Disgusting. That guy nor his late mother never ever had something done to earn their status, they were born that way, they didn’t pay taxes for many years etc… It’s just as disgusting as Johnny ‘Rotten’ Lydon (the Sex Pistols‘ album the best punk one ever, in my book) voting for natural-born charlatan Trump. What is wrong with those millionaire artists?

And they never have enough. If, as a youngster, you want to go to a Cave concert, or
a Björk one, or a Springsteen one, or a Depeche Mode one (and countless more), you have
to rob a bank first so you can pay the decadent entrance prices. Rock ‘n’ roll stars are only for the rich. Yep, also disgusting.

That said Nicholas Palace is an infectious groove, a jagged jam, driven by a rotating riff with Leonardo‘s augmenting the funeral vibe of the song, think The Velvet Underground on a rainy day. Around the 1.30 min mark aggressive guitar electricity turns up and accentuates the end of the birthday party.

Minneapolis‘ riot grunge grrrls BABES IN TOYLAND (1987–2001, 2014–2020) were punk pussyKats you’d better not mess around with. Their barbed wire in-your-face bravado could split atoms and Kat Bjelland‘s intimidating vox was clamorously ace.

Remember their stupendous single BRUISE VIOLVET and its utterly cool
babes-rock video clip from their amazeballs 1992 album Fontanelle?

Following her superb debut LP NO HOME RECORD the former Sonic Youth heroine
had to wait a couple of years – like every artist – to take it on the road due to that nasty Covid-19 virus. But it was worth the wait. Her concert in Brussels in 2022 was truly special.

Last year she released another unbridled noise EP Come On
with Bill Nace under their moniker BODY/HEAD.

As announced a couple of weeks ago Gordon has bagged her 2nd solo LP.
It’s titled The Collective and it’ll land on March 8. Pre-order info here.

Following distorted noise and wacky lyrics lead
single Bye Bye she shared a second piece.

I’M A MAN is an equally slo-mo industrial shocker with Gordon‘s
spoken-word vocality adding a cold-blooded perturbation.

In the video, Gordon is accompanied by her daughter Coco Gordon Moore,
who was also was in the ‘Bye Bye’ video, and male model Conor Fay.

Brighton‘s Apocalpyse-punk-now trio LAMBRINI GIRLS released their fucktastic debut EP You’re Welcome Last May. Since then, the very loud and very clear Amazons went on an insane ride. Everybody with an amazeballs appetite for in-your-face rock ‘n’ roar wanted to see them, hear them and go bananas with them. And that’s only the beginning, folks.

To continue their world-conquering crusade, the girlzz just
unleashed a new barbed wire sledgehammer GOD’S COUNTRY.

“Gods Country is our long, overdue call-out of the government and rise of the far right. We wrote this a few months back, when the political landscape had evidently reached a global boiling point. “Great Britain. Think colonial, shit-hole, chunk of land. Thriving off unhinged nationalism, fed to us by the right red hand of unelected prime ministers. Despite this, we have the audacity to call our country ‘Great’. So we ask you, ‘Are you sure?’ We could deep dive into inspirations and influences – but the song’s about politics, not us. We hope the song speaks for itself. “Rishi, Cameron, Cummings, Starmer – you’re all on our shit list.”

It’s one of the most roasting post-Brexshit tirades my ears ever heard. These cast iron battle-axes rap and rage with knives between their teeth. God’s Country is a furious bass-burning bazooka shooting hard at all charlatans who turned Great-Britain into an isolated, otherworldly, me-myself-and-I country. Rule Brittania? My ass.

Who: Rousing, fiddle driven alternative folk band from Barnsley, England.
They fuse traditional and contemporary elements into an upbeat and energetic
sound, their songs are full of catchy hooks, infectious rhythms and a party spirit.

Singles: The Travelling Life and What The World Could Be

TUTV: Debut single The Travelling Life brings veteran folk rockers Levellers instantly
to mind with its frisky catchiness, its frolicsome fiddle play, its emotive vocals and its rollicking chorus. The song captures the ethos of the band; taking a stand, following
your heart, choosing a path and ambitiously travelling forwards.

What The World Could Be has a totally other vibe. More meditative and moodier. The track serves as a poignant lament for the Earth’s dwindling natural beauty and a stirring call to action in the face of greed and injustice destroying the planet. It’s five to twelve, indeed. The majority of political leaders look the other way when these world-crushing issues come up. Some even don’t believe that our climate is changing drastically. More red-alert songs like this one are always welcome.

After 5 highly lauded albums they took a break in 2015. Three years later they reunited and they have bagged a new longplayer now.
