Twenty year old Frankie
He’s married he’s got a kid
And he’s working in a factory
He’s working from seven to five
He’s just trying to survive
Well lets hear it for Frankie
Frankie Frankie
Well Frankie can’t make it
‘Cause things are just too hard
Frankie can’t make enough money
Frankie can’t buy enough food
And Frankie’s getting evicted
Oh let’s hear it for Frankie
Oh Frankie Frankie
Oh Frankie Frankie
Frankie is so desperate
He’s gonna kill his wife and kids
Frankie’s gonna kill his kid
Frankie picked up a gun
Pointed at the six month old in the crib
Oh Frankie
Frankie looked at his wife
Shot her
“Oh what have I done?”
Let’s hear it for Frankie
Frankie teardrop
Frankie put the gun to his head
Frankie’s dead
Frankie’s lying in hell
We’re all Frankies
We’re all lying in hell

TRACK BY TRACK
Artist: LEAH MARTEL
Who: Singer-songwriter from Ontario (Canada) who spent her formative
years hard at work training to be a prolific writer, musician, performer, actor,
dancer, activist and cycling through various superpowers via extensive
maladaptive daydreaming.
Single: EVERYBODY OUT
Martel: “I wrote Everybody Out at a point in my life when my social anxiety was really at its peak. When I sat down to write out all the lyrics I wanted to really emphasize the contradictory nature of this kind of anxiety where it has you running for the hills to get away from everyone but only because you so desperately want to connect with people and care far too much about every minor interaction just hoping it will be good.”
TUTV: Social anxiety in motion, uncontrollable emotion, mind-disturbing commotion.
Martel translates all these turbulent sensitivities in a towering power pop gem energized by a pounding, one-note piano beat, her raging voice and the exploding get out chorus.
Wham bam, bloody wham bam. Wowzers. Top.

Artists: KISS BANG
Who: Fresh power pop duo – Kaya Stewart
and Max Mercier – from Los Angeles
Single: HORRORS OF YOUR HOMETOWN
TUTV: Kiss Bang sound and look glamorous. ‘Horrors Of Your Hometown’ is a hopped-up electro-pop stomper peppered with sexy power vocals and a sultry, sticking chorus. Enough fuel to energize your eager limbs and lose yourself in this bedazzling bliss.

Band: LONGSTRYDE
Who: An Irish indie trio, the core of two brothers, Tommy and Ricky. The name ‘Longstryde’ again has familial origins, taken from the brother’s grandmother as she yelled in support of Ricky as he competed in sprints. The name took on a wider meaning for the brothers, becoming a mantra of determination and to succeed in spite of whatever obstacle might disrupt their path.
Single: SUPERHUMAN
TUTV: What a voice, what a tune, what a thrill. Longstryde is a glorious pop anthem that touches heart and soul all the way through, revved up with avid riffage. It’s the stimulating sort of ablaze piece that speeds up your adrenalin flow from the first spin on. Epic debut.

Band: WENCH!
Who: Fresh indie trio from Hull (UK) who fuse Riot Grrrl punk with
alternative rock & pop. This all-female, all-queer outfit are actively
speaking out about misogyny and mistreatment of women, ensuring
their gigs are a safe space.
Single: SHREDS
“Shreds is a song for anyone who feel intimidated by social situations to an extent they don’t say what they mean. We believe in expressing ourselves in a raw & unfiltered way which can sometimes backfire but enables us to speak from the heart.”
TUTV: Fervid emotions flame up all the way through this exuberant cryout. At its core it’s
a powerhouse pop song hijacked by fierce guitars and relentless drum/bass explosiveness. On the overwhelming chorus, the singer scrapes the sky with hearty vocals and the intense climax tears your overheated stereo to shreds.

Band: ESCAPE GOATS
Who: Three rockers from Glasgow who only
got together at the beginning of this year.
Why the name Escape Goats? 2024 is the Chinese year of…The Dragon.
But, The Dragon and the Goat make up one of the most compatible love
matches in the Chinese zodiac.
Single: MUHAMMED ALI
“Despite the tone of exacerbation, we actually do care about lots of things
and, unsurprisingly, none of us can really fight like Muhammad Ali (who can?).”
TUTV: This debut is a cranked-up razor-blade uppercut. Sinewy drumming,
blaring guitars and annoyed, ranting vocals storm together through a hefty haze of post-punk dissatisfaction. It feels like a helter-skelter punch to the face. I don’t think boxing icon Muhammed Ali was a punk, but his vicious left/right puissance is all over this outburst.

Who: A new musical project started
by 3 members of British of psych rock
act It’s Karma It’s Cool
Single: LOVE WAKES UP

and crystalline vocals. It’s a gratifying song that evokes lovey-dovey feelings,
very welcome in these chaotic times we live in. Hear the brisk bee zooming.

Artists: THA FLICKER
Who: A duo with contrasting yet complementary artistic journeys. Giulia born in Sesto San Giovanni, infuses the project with her vibrant soul, creating intense melodies, profound lyrics, and a captivating voice. Marco born in Monza, brings an instinctive and meticulous approach to crafting their signature electronic sound.
Single: FADED FLOWERS
The song reflects the disillusionment of a generation grappling with
a world in decline, capturing both fragility and quiet resilience through
poetic imagery and layered soundscapes.
TUTV: This debut reflects our disturbing state-of-2024-mind with lots of human dramas going on all over the globe. Faded Flowers echoes confused emotions with an affectional vocality and an overall feverish resonance, reminiscinet of Florence + The Machine. There’s a Tha Flicker light at the end of the tunnel, people.

Artist: AWILD MIND
Who: An Irish songwriter based in Clare, Awild Mind brings a personal and empathetic touch to his music. With a knack for capturing emotions often left unspoken – anxiety, grief, sadness – and balancing them with moments of quirkiness and joy, his music feels both intimate and universal.
Single: BOYS OF THE CHOIR
The song’s narrative delves into the complexities of life – its stress, the weight of nostalgia, and the warmth and authenticity of the lyrics capture emotions that resonate universally.
TUTV: This fully-orchestrated, storytelling pop pearl awakes tender-hearted sentiments and lasting memories. Irish melancholia with an universal appeal in motion. Let the church bells ring, let the choir chorus touch your mellow intimacy.

Band: SPLEEN
Who: 3 young Italian dogs completing their
high school this year. They produce a melting
pot of grunge, punk, and noise.
Single: DYSTOPIC SCHOOL
TUTV: It’s always a thrilling pleasure to see/hear young gunslingers
get up, stand up and do your head in with a smashing debut. And this
is what happens here. Spleen turn up the amps and rattle ‘n’ rumble their
butts off. My ears detect some Green Day echoes and a salvo of fiery riffs
and sharp-cutting hooks. Way to go, raggazi!

Band: DAFFODILDOS
Who: Queer indies from Brighton who are here to shout
about challenging socio-political issues and have a lot of
fun while doing it.
Single: NO PRIDE
The song touches on the fact that people mostly use Pride
as an excuse to party when actually the rest of the year, the
LGBTQIA community suffers from dangerous stigma and
abuse.
TUTV: An explicit middle-finger for all LGBTQIA-haters. To hell
with them. Queer-trans-punk trio Daffodildos entered the indie
scene this year with sharp-cutting knifes between their teeth and
are here to stay.’No Pride‘ is a fast-forward projectile that rattles
and battles for 251 barbed wire seconds.
“We’re here, we’re queer
We’re never gonna disappear.”

TRACK-BY-TRACK
Band: CHOSES SAUVAGES
Who: French-language post-punk outfit from Montréal, CA. They carved themselves their own niche with their brand of dance-punk. They have 2 albums on their résumé, so far.
Track: EN JOUE
With this single the group lean little more into classic new-wave territory
while addressing the frustrations evoked by political injustice and the media.
Félix Bélisle (frontman): ‘The song refers to the feeling of helplessness faced by the extremely violent international news from recent years. It also deals with the dehumanization of certain populations taken hostage in armed conflicts and the fear of others.”
Talking Heads meet Gang Of Four. Funky bass/drum-motorized
and guitar-sparkling stroke with some eerie synth moments.
Piece remarquable.

Band: RATS
Who: Liverpool team active since the latter stages of the last decade, the band,
led by singer and lyricist, Joe Maddocks, have developed no small reputation for uncompromising social statements coupled with no little humour.
Track: SECTION 60
Joe Maddocks: ”Section 60 means a form of policing where a whole neighborhood is persecuted because of the actions of a few. I was riding home from the studio one night
and was stopped by the police, leading to my anatomy being violated for no reason other
than riding a bicycle. In the cycle lane too. This song isn’t having a go at the police, but the
legislation.
Irrisitible vibe with an instant impact on
your body movements. Get up and bounce
around like a kangaroo on dope.

Band: DEXTERITY
Who: Up-and-coming alt/prog rock group, fronted by Sarah Dexter, merging inspirations from progressive metal with alternative rock. Dexterity emphasizes how unconventional rhythms and song structure can appeal naturally to the listener by combining those aspects with flowing melodies and grooves you can dance to.
Track: VESSEL
Sarah: “There can be constant turmoil for people who exist outside rigid gender/sexuality binaries. Transitioning in terms of name and hormones and label is a journey, and it all
takes a while. But I knew presenting femme, as my true self, had to happen. I changed the Vessel and the Vessel changed me, and everything else followed in its own time.”
Wayward forth-and-back trip juiced with jumpy guitars
and intensified with mixed emotions lyrics/vocals.

“I Can’t Imagine” and “Southern Life.”

They have a keen common desire to explore their creative abilities without limitations, the 4 piece have been working together for years to reach a “Halfway point between Roxy Music and Death Grips.”
Single: NAIL IN YOUR HEAD
“A three-and-a-half-minute track that leaves no stone unturned during their exploration
of ideas, as they veer and sway between lounge act and heavy metal apocalypse. It’s the sound of the band that plays at the Overlook Hotel as Jack Nicholson gets served by the best bar man from the netherworld. Mike Patton’s favourite band he’s yet to hear.”
Both intriguing and capricious thrill throwing
you forth and back. Fascinating stroke.
XMAS ALBUM COVERS – AMAZING & AWFUL ONES
LAUREN MAYBERRY Performed Her Pop Pearl ‘SOMETHING IN THE AIR’ On American TV Show
12 December 2024
Synth-pop band CHVRCHES‘ Scottish frontwoman LAUREN
MAYBERRY released her solo debut album VICIOUS CREATURE
last week.
NME wrote: “Mayberry is indeed on her own path of solo discovery, and that
leaves plenty of room to be excited about what lies on the road ahead as she
digs even deeper into her solo artistry.”
To TUTV’s ears, the record’s stand-out track – one of this year’s
best singles – is SOMETHING IN THE AIR. A vocal tour de force.
Last week she performed the solid gold
pop pearl on the Jimmy Kimmel Live Show.
Astounding.
VICIOUS CREATURE
THE DARKNESS – The Glam Rockers’ Big Mouth JUSTIN HAWKINS Hates Himself
Daily noise that works faster than a stream of caffeine
12 December 2024
British glam rockers THE DARKNESS, fronted by big mouth Justin Hawkins
topped the UK Charts with their debut album Permission To Land back in
2003. Talking about a spectacular start.
They confirmed their star status with 2 other hit LPs, but totally unexpected Hawkins
left the band in 2006 to pursue other musical projects that went down without success.
So Hawkins re-grouped The Darkness and they got very productive with 5 longplayers and several tours.
They now have canned another longplayer which
will make their fans very happy next year.
Its new single I HATE MYSELF is most likely written by Hawkins with One Direction‘s
star Liam Payne in mind who he called “a fucking muppet” not long before Payne took
his own life after falling from the hotel roof in Argentina, last October.
Hawkins defended himself recently : “I didn’t see that Liam situation coming. I mean, I didn’t pay enough attention to his career to recognize that there were signs of mental instability. I just thought it was somebody who wasn’t coping with fame or was trying to big themselves up or come across as something that was a little bit inauthentic, and that’s what I was highlighting, really. There’s videos of just about every artist in the world who hits a low ebb or on a bad day where they get interviewed and they make themselves seem like pricks. There just seems to be more of them of Liam at my disposal for that particular episode.”
Well, Hawkins, you know what a fucking muppet is about,
you are one for years now. But it’s okay to show regrets
about what you said, with a song.
