Artist: FEU FOLLET
Who: The project of French post/punk, synthwave,
coldwave musician Alban Blaising.
New album: SWAMPS OF SADNESS
His 6th one.
Press info: Originally rooted in instrumental darkwave and synthwave compositions,
Feu Follet has undergone a steady transformation since his 2019 debut Le Champ Des Morts. With 2021’s Beneath The Earth, Blaising introduced vocals into his sonic landscape for the first time, inviting collaborators and blurring the lines between electronic atmosphere and emotional storytelling.
Swamps Of Sadness marks a new chapter. It dives deeper into rock-oriented terrain, while preserving the project’s signature melancholy and immersive textures. Featuring
Feu Follet’s biggest lineup of guest vocalists: Thomas Schernikau (Forced to Mode), Vlimmer, Isabelle B., Baumann, Pat Aubier, and Pierre Bastien, the album opens up Feu Follet’s sound like never before.
Layered with guitars, modular synths, psychedelic bleeps and blobs, Blaising played the drums himself for the first time. ‘Swamps of Sadness’ explores personal disorientation and fragile hope through a cinematic lens. It’s a bold, collaborative step forward that both honors and expands the project’s emotional core. Feu Follet continues to evolve without losing the haunting intimacy that defined his earlier works.
TUTV: With such a detailed and factual press statement (no exaggerations whatsoever, when it subscribes the music) I can’t add much except, of course, for what my ears tell
me, and they’re quite impressed.
They advice you to give this dark-melodrama-wave record, dominated by impassioned vocals from Blaising and his guests, surrounded by orchestral synth-scapes and notable percussion, a couple of spins to fully connect with its heart and soul and its overall, shadowy sonority.
In the end all pieces fall into place. Swamps Of Sadness, at its core is a goth-ish, gloomy,
and romantic twilight trip juiced with solid, intense tunes that stick slowly but surely in your mind.
