JEFF TWEEDY Has His New Triple Album ‘TWILIGHT OVERRIDE’ Out
28 September 2025
57-year-old songsmith JEFF TWEEDY has always been a very productive musician
from his early days on with Uncle Tupelo (1987-1994), then of course with Wilco,
13 albums so far, and solo.
Last Friday he unveiled his new solo LP, actually a triple-one with no less
than 30 songs (yep, very productive). It’s titled TWILIGHT OVERRIDE.
Stereogum says: “Here we have 30(!) new songs, a document of inspiration overflowing.
For the casual listener, it’s intimidating, maybe even exhausting. However, if you have love
for Tweedy’s music in your heart, if you’ve had your taste imprinted by his weary rasp and expansive sonic vision, if multiple eras of your life have been soundtracked by Wilco, how
can you be anything but grateful for such an outpouring?”
Topdrawer single / Glorious title
TUTV: Tweedy does here what he does best, mixing seamlessly country rock, classic rock,
warm-hearted balladry, romantic lullabies, and musing reflections. As all fans know, he has
a great storytelling voice, taking his work to a most entertaining level.
But 30 songs are way too much to hold my attention, mainly because several songs
are variations of other songs, which leads to listening fatigue (for my ears that is). So
I reduced the triple LP to my fav 12 songs and get myself a notable Tweedy album.

Canadian Americana Songsmith MATTHEW RYAN JACOBS Cherishes The Moment On New Track ‘EMPTY ROOMS’
Daily electricity to load your batteries
28 September 2025
Artist: MATTHEW RYAN JACOBS
Who: Singer/songwriter from Kitchener Waterloo Ontario, CA. He started out playing
in rock and alternative bands throughout Ontario in the 2000s. In 2019 he made the
move to focus on his solo career. He blends elements of folk, delta blues, soul, and
rock. He released his debut EP Living In Between in 2021.
Track: EMPTY ROOMS
“The idea behind “Empty Rooms” started out as me trying to write a happy song, but it ended up a little darker in the end. I was looking at my life and being grateful that most of my family and people close to me are still around and healthy; and trying to be in the moment now because it won’t always be like this. That’s the line, “time may tell, but it will always take”, it’s inevitable.”
TUTV: Americana at its enrapturing best. The acoustic, pondering melancholia
of the intro transits into a full, electrically orchestrated zestfulness that boosts
the song in an eye/ear blink.
Living in the moment, amidst your beloved ones, family and friends, is the key to experiencing a joie de vivre for being here. Jacobs‘ soul-stirring voice carries Empty Roomsall the way. Think Tom Petty, John Mellencamp and Jeff Tweedy. Let’s go straight
to the light at the end of the tunnel and enjoy life.
Lest We Forget – TUTV’s 20 Best Albums Of 2024 – Today: No. 7
We’re on our way, slowly but surely, to the end of 2025.
Instead of starting to think about this year’s best LPs,
let’s go back to 2024 and listen to TUTV’s 20 Best Albums
again and look back on what we wrote about each one
of them.
Today: No. 7
Band: THE BLACK KEYS (Ohio, US)
Dan Auerbach (guitar, vocals) and Patrick Carney (drums)
Album: OHIO PLAYERS
Their 12th.
TUTV: The star duo made an album with lots of bright pop tunes and some blues light
ones. The licks/riffs and hooks – about a thousand – haven’t that BK’s raw and rough edge as we are used to, but I don’t miss it whatsoever.
The overall sonority leans more towards power guitar pop (slow, mid-tempo and only
a couple of fast ones). I never thought that the tandem would come up after 23 (!) years with a pretty different sounding, coherent longplayer, without ignoring their blues roots that is. I played Ohio Players more than their whole catalog together. Say no more.

NEIL YOUNG Released His Melancholic 28th Album ‘PRAIRIE WIND’ 20 Years Ago Today
27 September 2025
Living legend NEIL YOUNG released his 28th longplayer
PRAIRIE WIND today 20 years ago, on 27 September 2005.
An acoustic-based record reminiscent of his earlier albums Harvest and Harvest Moon.
The album’s songs find Young pondering his own mortality, as he was undergoing treatment for an aneurysm during the album’s production.
Songs were also inspired by the extended illness of his father, Canadian sportswriter and novelist Scott Young, who passed a few weeks after the album was completed. The LP is dedicated in part to the elder Young.
It peaked at #11 in the US and #22 in the UK.
Pitchfork wrote: “That voice, alternately gentle and strident, tender and outraged,
has held up surprisingly well, gaining gritty authority with age. His few cracks and
wrinkles just reinforce the sense of wistful nostalgia that suffuses Prairie Wind as
well as almost all his other folk-rock albums since Harvest Moon, if not since
Harvest.”
Vintage Young melancholia.
