Today 60 (yes 60!!) years ago, on 29 October 1965, iconic mod rockers
THE WHO released their best known juggernaut with MY GENERATION.
More than 2,02 billion streams on Spotify. Wowzers.
It was named the 11th greatest song in history
by Rolling Stone Magazine some years ago.
It went to #2 in the UK and
only #78 (oops) in the US.
Legend goes that Pete Townshend wrote the song on a train,
inspired by the Queen Mother who had his 1935 Packard hearse
towed off a street in Belgravia (London) because she was offended
by the sight of it during her daily drive through the neighbourhood.
Doubtful, but hilarious story. I wonder who invented it. Anyway, later in
1985 Townshend said My Generation was very much about trying to find
a place in society.

Brooklyn‘s lauded folk pop/rock band BIG THIEF launched
their 6th full length, titled Double Infinity last September.
The new LP was recorded by a sprawling collective, with multiple musicians joining
them in the studio. Those musicians all joined the group on The Tonight Show With
Jimmy Fallon last Monday. That line-up includes the 82-year-old ambient pioneer
Laajari, who plays and sings backup on much of the album.
They played GRANDMOTHER, one of the album’s highlights.
Never saw vocalist Adrienne Lenker perform
with black sunglasses on. Pretty cool!

Metal oldtimers IRON MAIDEN have a new book out. It’s titled Infinite Dreams.

FLORENCE + THE MACHINE , is the moniker for singer/songwriter Florence Welch
who started the project back in 2007 with keyboardist Isabella Summers who actually was the architect of F+TM’s sound, and guitarist Rob Ackroyd, drummer Christopher Lloyd Hayden and harpist Tom Monger. For several years the act is centred around Welch.
This Friday album No. 6, named Everybody Scream will be released.
But first, we get titillating taster number three SYMPATHY MAGIC.
Welch co-wrote and produced the song with two very different collaborators,
the National’s Aaron Dessner and lauded dance-pop adventurer Danny L. Harle.
The result is a juggernaut of an orchestral pop saga.
The accompanying video will impress your eyes.
At the very start you’ll see Welch bare naked from the back for 5 seconds.
So it’s marked as age-restricted. OMG. All over the Internet media show horrible images/video’s from the wars in Gaza and Ukraine on a daily basis, without any

The late star rapper COOLIO, born named Artis Leon Ivey Jr in Los Angeles in 1963,
was on top of the US & UK Singles Charts with his mammoth hit GANGSTA’ PARADISE,
on 28 October 1995, today 30 years ago.
It featured vocals from American singer L.V. who co-composed and co-wrote the lyrics
with Coolio and Doug Rasheed. The song sampled the chorus of Stevie Wonder‘s 1976 song Pastime Paradise
As of today, the song scored more than 2,2 billion streams on Spotify and
the video clip has been watched more than 1,8 billion times. Numbers!!
Coolio passed away in 2022 due to a drug overdose.

Celebrated Welsh rocker DAVE EDMUNDS topped the UK singles charts
with I HEAR YOU KNOCKING (more than 30 million streams on Spotify)
55 years ago, on 28 October 1970.
The song was written in 1955 by American musician and band
leader Dave Bartholomew who died in 2019, aged 100!
Edmunds also topped the Irish
charts and peaked at #4 in the US.

The now 81-year-old rocker experienced a major cardiac arrest before being
revived with CPR. According to his wife Cici Edmunds, he is currently stable and
recovering.
