SLEAFORD MODS – Rap Punks Speed Up Their Groove Engine On New Toptier Single ‘THE GOOD LIFE’
Daily electricity to load your batteries
22 October 2025
Band: SLEAFORD MODS
Who: Rap-punk poetry duo featuring
voice Jason Williamson and instrumentalist
Andrew Fearn.
Track: THE GOOD LIFE
It’s the 2nd preview single, following Megaton from their 13th LP,
baptized The Demise Of Planet X. It’ll land on mother Earth on
16 Jan 2016. More info here
Actress Gwendoline Christie and agog duo The Big Special join the tandem on this one.
Williamson about the song: “The Good Life talks about slagging bands off and
the joy and misery that causes me. I’m asking myself why I do it, my inner voices
are brought to life by Gwendoline and Big Special, debating that tension between
me enjoying a good life or submitting to the mayhem.”
About the forthcoming LP: “When we wrote the last one, it was about stagnation,
a country that felt like a lifeless corpse. Three years later, that corpse has been split
open by war, genocide, and the lingering psychological fallout of Covid. It feels like
we’re living among the ruins.”
TUTV: We know for a long time that the sharp-mouthed mods are an unstoppable
groove engine, and this one is another pulsating bullet. Wowza. Fucking-A. Let’s see
if you can catch up with this speedy hip-shaking trigger.
Rush and race here.
Live your life fast.

SMAG PÅ DIG SELV – Danish Experimental Trio Turn Viking Anthem Into Saxy EBM Banger ‘LET’S GO!’
21 October 2025
Band: SMAG PÅ DIG SELV (Taste Yourself in English)
Who: One of Denmark’s most uncompromising and captivating acts.
With their explosive mix of acoustic techno, punk energy, and 90s dance,
they have played everything from Roskilde Festival over SummerStage in
Central Park, New York to showcase festivals such as SXSW, The Great
Escape and Euro sonic.
Their debut album SPDS came out in 2024. You can stream it here.
Press info: The track is a Viking anthem wrapped in electronic chaos, throat singing and electro punch produced by hyped, charting Danish producer TMI Tammi. Smag På Dig Selv continue their mission to challenge the simple set up and musical output made from two saxophones and drums.
TUTV: This is special. An EBM banger fired up by bass booms,
rotating synth textures, and saxophone sultriness. Jazzy techno?
Kind of, pretty cool. Overall, ‘Let’s Go’ resonates like an electronic
orchestra.
It may sound weird, but the vibrancy of British legendary indies Pigbag‘s
1981 hit Papa Got A Brand New Pigbag popped up in my ears. Unless you
already heard these Danish sonic explorers, you’ll be as impressed as I am.

TOM WAITS – The Genial Barfly Released His 3rd LP ‘NIGHTHAWKS AT THE DINER’ Today 50 Years Ago
Significant longplayers from yesteryear
21 October 2025
Crooner and barfly legend TOM WAITS (75 now) released his 3rd LP, titled
NIGHTHAWKS AT THE DINER today, 50 years ago, on 21 October 1975.
It was recorded over four sessions in July in the Los Angeles Record Plant studio
in front of a small invited audience, set up to recreate the atmosphere of a jazz club.
The album got very positive critics but didn’t score commercially well at first, as it
peaked at #164 on the Billboard 200. Over the years it went silver.
The title was inspired by Edward Hopper‘s 1942 painting Nighthawks. See here.
Jim Hughart, who played upright bass on the recordings
recalled the experience of preparing for and recording the
album:
“Preparing for this thing, we had to memorize all this stuff, ’cause Waits had nothing on paper. So ultimately, we spent four or five days in a rehearsal studio going over this stuff. And that was drudgery. But when we did actually get it all prepared and go and record, that was the fastest two days of recording I’ve ever spent in my life. It was so fun.”

ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN Can’t Stop Touring – Back In The UK And North America in 2026
21 October 2025

Photo by Turn Up The Volume – Leuven, Belgium
Liverpool‘s post-punk rock-pop heroes ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN (1978–1993,
1996–present) are one of those luminary bands that seem to be around like forever.
Oh, and they’re are one of my all-time fav groups. I’ve seen them live 27 times, I guess
that makes me a fan.
Original members, loudmouth and supreme voice Ian McCulloch and guitar
virtuoso Will Sergeant are tour maniacs. I can’t remember anymore when
they were not on the road.
Next year will be no different. They’ll entertain the UK
and North America with More Songs To Learn & Sing.

POMONA PARK – Manchester Indies Connect With Vibrant Single ‘LIFELINE’
New striking strokes
21 October 2025
Band: POMONA PARK
Who: Out of the 2021 lockdown, one chilly winter evening by
the Quays of Salford, Pomona Park was born from friendship/work.
The 4 young men found a common calling to express themselves,
after prolonged a period of isolation, with a willingness and a want
to get up and get on with something.
The band get their name from the area called Pomona, a no man’s land of
a space brimming with potential right between Manchester and Salford
(where Joy Division came from).
Track: LIFELINE
Newest single.
Chris Smith (frontman): “It’s about the first time I went to meet my now wife, Lucy.
It explains the anxious excitement of meeting someone properly for the first time. Then
the song explores opening up to someone, and allowing them to see your vulnerabilities,
which is really important when finding a partner.”
TUTV: Expect quintessential indie Britpop. Scintillating guitars, an abundance of energy, impassioned vocals, a sprightly chorus and a story taken directly from life. Both desirous and hesitant.
Love and tension in the air. An recognizable experience
for many of us, which makes Lifeline a connecting reflection.
Vibrant score!

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN Released His RAMONES Single ‘HUNGRY HEART’ Today 45 Yeasr Ago
Top singles from the post
21 October 2025
THE BOSS earned his first Top-5 hit in the US with HUNGRY HEART.
The single was released this day 45 years ago, on 21 October 1980.
The song was part of his fifth album The River.
One day Springsteen met Joey Ramone in Asbury Park, New Jersey, who asked
him to write a song for the Ramones. He then composed ‘Hungry Heart‘, but
decided to keep it for himself on the advice of his producer and manager,
Jon Landau.
Previously, upbeat and catchy Springsteen songs such as ‘Blinded by the Light’,
‘Because the Night’, and ‘Fire‘ had been given away and become hits for others,
and Landau preferred the trend not continue.
Too bad, I really would have known what
the Ramones would have done with
the song.
The title is drawn from a line in Alfred Tennyson (1809-1892)
famous poem Ulysses: “For always roaming with a hungry heart”.
“Everybody’s got a hungry heart
Lay down your money and you play your part
Everybody’s got a h-h-hungry heart”
