BRONCOS – Irish Doomed Rockers Overwhelmed By ‘GLOOM’

Vitalizing tunes that work faster than a stream of caffeine

26 August 2026

Band: BRONCOS
Who: Hefty 4-piece emerging from Belfast‘s thriving alternative music scene.
They have spent the last two years traversing the country and, in the process,
releasing a slew of successful singles, to establish themselves as one of
Ireland’s most compelling voices.

Track: GLOOM
New single.

Lyrically the song is about knowing from the outset that
a relationship is doomed, but entering into it regardless.

TUTV: After a tranquil synth intro, this emotional discharge intensity’s builds up gradually and menacingly, and scrapes the sky on the herculean chorus, spiked with anxious vocals. Image nu-metal titans Deftones and industrial vets Fear Factory jamming with subdued urgency. Gloom is wrapped in dark clouds and has an ominous sense of near-collapse. Darkness rules. No emergency exit.

“We’re always doomed”

DONOVAN – British Psych Pop Legend Released His 3th LP ‘SUNSHINE SUPERMAN’ Today 60 Years Ago

Significant longplayers from yesteryear

26 August 2026

Scottish psych-pop songsmith legend DONOVAN, who turned 80 last May, released
his 3rd LP, named SUNSHINE SUPERMAN, today 60 years ago on 26 August 1966
in the US alone.

It didn’t come out in the UK at that time because of a contractual dispute. In June 1967,
a compilation of tracks from this album and the follow-up Mellow Yellow was released as Sunshine Superman in the UK.

Weird thing in Donovan‘s career, once dubbed as the British Bob Dylan,
is the fact that he made it first in the US, and in the UK sometime later.

The album was one of his most successful, peaking at number 11 in
the US and remaining on the Billboard Chart for 6 months. The 1967
UK edition peaked at number 25.

Every day of this summer we go back to the same summer day somewhere in history

25 Aug 1926

Eminent singer-songwriter ELTON JOHN (79 now) made his US live debut when
he kicked off a 17-date tour at the 300-seat capacity Troubadour in Los Angeles
on 25 August 1970. He played there for a full week. In the audience that night were
Don Henley (Eagles), Quincy Jones and Leon Russell.

THE CURE General ROBERT SMITH About MY BLOODY VALENTINE

25 August 2026

I wonder which are the two other favourite albums.

“My Bloody Valentine was the first band I heard who clearly pissed all over us. Their album ‘Loveless’ is certainly one of
my all-time three favourite records.”

This November it’ll be 35 years since MBV released their seminal LP Loveless.

WEEZER – Imperishable Nerd Rockers Have Their 20th Album Out

25 August 2026

Band: WEEZER
Who: The veteran nerd
rockers from Los Angeles.

Album: WEEZER
Their 4th self-titled one decorated with symbols,
think Led Zeppelin‘s 4th longplayer. The record
is already dubbed The Gold Album.

Rolling Stone: “Weezer’s Gold is, in fact, Weezer gold.

Pitchfork says: “Spurred on by producer Kenneth Blume, Weezer get
back in a room together to write rock songs that wallow, reminisce, and,
very occasionally, wow.”

TUTV: Mixed critical verdicts. Weezer is one of these bands that goes back to
their (very) old recipe, to their fan-pleasing formula, over and over again, but
forget regularly, to write enough top-tier tunes to fill a full record. As usual,
the singles are catchy and fun, but the rest is mediocre for a band of their
calibre. No, I’m not impressed.

Singles.

PAUL SIMON Released His Contested 7th Solo Album ‘GRACELAND’ Today 40 Years Ago

Significant longplayers from yesteryear

25 August 2026

Legendary singer-songwriter PAUL SIMON, who turns 85 next October, released
his 7th album, named GRACELAND, on 25 August 1986, today 40 years ago.

Organizations such as Artists United Against Apartheid criticized Simon for breaking
the cultural boycott on South Africa imposed for its policy of apartheid, while others
accused him of appropriating the music of another culture.

Simon responded that Graceland was a political statement that showcased collaboration between black and white people and raised international awareness of apartheid. Some praised him for helping popularize African music in the West.

The album became Simon‘s most successful album and his highest-charting album
in over a decade, with estimated sales of more than 16 million copies worldwide.

Rolling Stone said: “An album about isolation and redemption that
transcended ‘world music’ to become the whole world’s soundtrack.”
