This Day In 1966 In Manchester – ‘Like A JUDAS Stone’ By BOB DYLAN

During his UK tour in 1966 on 17 May, imperishable troubadour-legend BOB DYLAN played in Manchester at The Free Trade Hall. At one point during Like A Rolling Stone
a member of the audience shouted out Judas at Dylan because he didn’t like (and many
with him) that Dylan played half of the concert electric guitar, backed by Americana
rockers The Band.

He was branded a traitor for moving from acoustic folk to rock ‘n’ roll.
Dylan replied with “I don‘t believe you” and “You’re a liar“, then turned
around and instructed The Band to ‘Play loud’.

Here’s that historic performance.

Video: “The clip shows the band playing in an audition in a high school gymnasium, with different light filters changing the color of the room. Karen O’s crying in the video was not staged. She explains: “They were real tears. My boyfriend at the time (Angus Andrew) was supposed to come to the shoot – he was three hours late and I was just about to leave for tour. I didn’t think he was even going to come and this was the song that was written for him. He eventually showed up and I got myself in a real emotional state.”

ELVIS COSTELLO Didn’t Want To Go To CHELSEA 45 Years Ago

5 May 2023

45 years ago (17 March 1978) ELVIS COSTELLO and his Attractions
released their second LP, the fantastic This Year’s Model. One of the
singles was the equally fantastic I DON’T WANT TO GO TO CHELSEA.

A song Costello wrote when he was working as a computer programmer.
Lyrically, it was inspired by the films he had been watching as well as his
childhood trips to Chelsea, London.

Oh, no, it does not move me
Even though I’ve seen the movie
I don’t want to check your pulse
I don’t want nobody else
I don’t want to go to Chelsea
