Blues-rock duo THE KILLS – vocalist Alison Mosshart and guitarist Jamie
Hince – released their excellent 6th full length God Games last October.
Some time ago they did an acoustic session for Sirius XM Radio. One of the songs
they played was a cover of massive Billie Eilish hitHappîer Than Ever (more than
1,3 billion streams on Spotify).
And now we get a bluesy, electric version.
Sounds like Eilish wrote it for Mosshart.
Mosshart: “It’s all Sirius XM’s fault. We were asked to do an acoustic session with them last year and they’d asked for a cover as part of the session. I’d always really dug “Happier Than Ever” and found myself singing it around the house all the time. After that radio session hit the airwaves, we were asked us to do an electric recording. Here we were in London, recording a non-electric EP, and what’s the first song on it? An electric cover of the acoustic cover we did… and the more electricity, the better. Thank you, Billie, for writing such a brilliant song.”

Maestro Adam Granduciel and his band do a great big banging job on Petty’s
1994 hitYOU WRECK ME from hisWildflowers LP which turns 30 next month.
It’ll feature several covers, with Bob Dylan‘sSHE BELONGS TO ME as one of them, showing Ferry‘s love for Dylan once again. Back in 2007 the former Roxy Music icon released a full Dylan songs album, named Dylanesque (stream below).
ALISON MOYET (born named Geneviève Alison Jane Ballard Moyet 63 years ago

of her new, 10th, album. KEY is her first in 7 years. It comes out on October 4. Stream the 2 new shared tracks below.

British punk-rock team IDLES join the long queue of artists that delivered stuff for
the Spotify Singles Series. They all record one cover and add a song of their own.
For Idles the own song is Roy from their recent LP Tangk.
Their cover is a take on MOOD SWINGS, a cool hip-rap-hop
by British artist Little Simz from her new album Drop 7.
Idles threw some samples of Peaches and Chemical Brothers in their hepped-up
version and come up with a dance banger that goes Boom Boom Boom.
Danish glam-pop duo THE RAVEONETTES – Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo – released their awe-inspiring debut LP Chain Gang Love
21 years ago.
Next July they’ll launch their 9th one, entitled The Raveonettes Sing…
A cover album of 50S-60s pop/rock classics, from the Velvet Underground
to The Shangri-Las, from Graham Parsons to Buddy Holly and more.
Sune Rose Wagner: “Sharin [Foo] and I used to perform songs by the Everly Brothers before we changed our name to the Raveonettes, so our love for this band goes way back. You won’t find a more dreamy song than ‘All I Have To Do Is Dream,’ it’s the perfect lullaby in my book. We loved recording our version and hope people will rediscover such a timeless classic.”
British pop legend TOYAH WILLCOX and her beloved partner and King Crimson
guitar wizard ROBERT FRIPP are still in the kitchen at parties, for almost 4 years
now. Their weekly Sunday Lunch Cover Sessions started back in April to kill time
in that awful Covid-19 lockdown year.
What they have done since is make us laugh to tears with their both hilarious and
utterly cool performances. They already covered tons of classic songs by classic artists/bands and there is no way of stopping them. Yes, it only takes two to tango.
I’ll feature 20 covers by a star-studded cast of country artists such as George Strait, Steve Earle, Willie and Lukas Nelson, Marty Stuart, Luke Combs, Chris Stapleton, Dolly Parton, and Carly Pearce.
