Band: THE BATTERY FARM
Who: Blaze and rage punks out of the gutters of Manchester.
They released their debut album Flies in 2022.

Track: O GOD

TUTV: This could easily be a piece from Canadian post-hardcore loudmouths Fucked Up‘s newest album. No rest for the wicked. According to my ears, The Battery Farm operate in
a 2024 wasteland where surreality becomes reality. OM-G, this is a formidable jam.

Band: FRENCH MOTHERS
Who: 4 indie rockers out
of Leighton Buzzard, UK.

Single: THE TV’S SHOWING

Mark Harris (frontman): “Written from the perspective of someone longing for another
and the cruelty of this person not letting go, ‘The TV’s Snowing’ emulates how this person lives helplessly in limbo, with nights stretched further and afar. Our love of Bon Iver really influenced the atmosphere of the production, and it’s one of our proudest creations.”

TUTV: A perturbed reflection with Harris‘ anxious vocals lifting this impassioned
tragedy to a bone-chilling level. It’s a feverish tour de force that keeps on reverberating after its volcanic finale. Splendid.

Band: MONOBLOC
Who: Ardent guitar-driven New Yorkers

Ace!

Band: THE SARANDONS
Who: Canadian outfit. Their music is a blend of bittersweet nostalgia and
familiar yet elusive stories. Despite a loose and lo-fi aesthetic, their songs
are meticulously arranged, with action-packed tracks typically spanning
3-4 minutes.

Track: DREAM MACHINE

David Suchon (songwriter): “Dream Machine is about connecting with things that are lost. In the case of my Dad, he’d always be able-bodied in his dreams despite have been paralyzed in a diving accident in 1982. Dreams are a strange world connecting us with a different reality, that is, until the dreamer is lost.”

This is the kind of boosting tunes I embrace on my headphones all day long.

guitars and harmonious vocals.

Band: PUBLIC SERVICE BROADCASTING
Who: Electronic mainstream indies from London.

Track: ELEKTRA

First piece from their upcoming new album, titled The Last Flight.
A concept one about aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart and her famous
round-the-world journey in 1937 that ended in her disappearance.

I wonder if Earhart would have liked the music of PSB. Anyway, Elektra
is an intoxicating, ongoing, symphonic sound-jam taking you sky-high.

Fascinating stuff.

Artist: ICARUS PHOENIX
Who: Musical project of singer-songwriter Drew Danburry
from Baltimore, Maryland. He has independently toured and
released records – 400 songs/20+ albums and 13 EPs (!!) – since
2002.

Track: HIGH TIDE .
A piece from upcoming album I Should Have Known
The Things You Never Said
. More info here

“It’s about ignorance and understanding. Understanding that your parents came from struggle, grief and tragedy. I grew up surrounded by paintings that my mother had made while attending an art therapy class after her third son died of cancer. She never painted again after the class was over. I grew up never knowing she had made them or why because I never saw her paint in my entire life.”

High Tide is a vocally/musically endearing and melancholic reflection about Danburry‘s parents’s grief after losing a son (and a brother to this songsmith). I guess words can’t express such a drama, but I hope the healing power of music/this song has a cathartic effect for the loved ones involved here and for all people who had to experience a
similar tragedy

Albini
who passed away in May, only 61.

Band: MADRAI
Who: Irish 4-piece

Linktree

Track: LEAVING ON MY OWN

Frontman Callum lays himself bare across the four-and-a-half-minute run time.
The honesty and vulnerability expressed is both frightening and cathartic while
allowing the listener to connect instantly to the track. All draped over a laid-back melancholy indie rock track with flourishes of Frusciante that underpin the still
stinging wound.

High-quality singer-songwriter debut. One for the midnight hours.
Emotive vocals, captivating melody, fitting musical orchestration.

Magnifico start.

Following the much acclaimed first single “A Foretold Ecstasy”, the new offering instantly puts a spell on you with its throbbing bass lines, motorik drums and hypnotic guitars, while midway it all opens up and leaves you drifting in a sea of dreamy melancholia. Combining the rhythmic grooves of kraut-rock and post-punk with the dazzling atmospherics of shoegaze and neo-psychedelia, the result is a profoundly dynamic song unfolding layer by layer.

TRACK-BY-TRACK

Band: COLD CAVE
Who: LA’s synth-Goth-wave act,
the brainchild of Wesley Eisold.

New single: BLACKBERRIES

TUTV: Sonically Blackberries is a trippy Depeche Mode-like synth-pop
reverie, as if CC left their dark basement for a walk in the park.

Band: DEADSET
Who: 4 post-punk indies
from Hull, UK

New single: HEAVY EYES
The song deals with addiction
and mental health.

Adam Arnold (bassist): “I was listening to Spiderland by Slint on repeat at this point. I wanted to recreate that jarring juxtaposition of tempos and riffs that are synonymous with their sound. Obviously in a more commercial sense. At this point however James and Sam had a completely different direction in mind. Heavy Eyes was my attempt to change that. I’m sure they hated it at first and it took a lot of persuasion. But now it’s a cornerstone of our sound and a constant reference for me.”

TUTV: Heavy Eyes is a spine-chilling cry out, going forth and back, with
high-strung vocals and alarming guitars. Think The Murder Capital.

Baffling score.

Band: MARTIAL ARTS
Who: Young gunslingers from
Manchester, UK.

New single: DEFECTOR
Only their 2nd single, following debut Warsaw.

TUTV: Bewildering post-punk mania. Fast and furious, innervated by
a puissant bass/drums tandem, schizo guitars and agitated vocals.

Tremendous thrill.

Band: THE IV
Who: Pop rock outfit from Brisbane, AU. They mix upbeat, groovy sounds
with more rock style tunes. You’ll have no problem getting up and dancing!

Debut single: I AM THE MOON, YOU ARE THE SUN

“It’s an attempt to challenge a pattern of always putting others
first without daring to appreciate ones own importance.”

TUTV: Spiralling and electrifying indie-guitar-bass jam,
gaining intensity and speed along its magnetizing way,
with dreamy vocals floating all over it.

Top-notch debut!

Band: NADA SURF
Who: Veteran rockers from NYC

New single: IN FRONT OF ME NOW

The first shared piece from their upcoming, 10th LP Moon Mirror
and will make their fans happy with its summer release on August 19.

In Front Of Me‘ sounds like Hüsker Dü going pop. Guitar-motorized, sizzlingly
speedy and infectiously melodic. The main difference with HD is Caws‘ sprightly
vocality, whereas Bob Mould‘s pipes were made to rage and rant.

Band: SALEM WOLVES
Who: 4 indies from Providence, Rhode Island

New single: SO DESPERATE
The 4- piece taps into the human psyche and
a lost wrestler’s supernatural ambition.

Gray Bouchard (songwriter): “‘So Desperate’ is about recontextualizing what should be a moment of triumph as something grimy. If you’re ambitious or a dreamer, it’s easy to just focus on the goal, the stage, that moment in the spotlight when all eyes are on you. You tune out the noise, ignore your screaming muscles and tired bones, and march toward victory.”

TUTV: Riveting mid-tempo flare-up pushed by an agonizing vocalist,
a firm rhythm section, and mental guitars. Vehement emotionality.

Striking post-punk stroke.

Artist: STRAND OF OAKS
Who: The project by songwriter and producer
Timothy Showalter, living in Austin, Texas

New song: FUTURE TEMPLE

From his 8th LP, titled Miracle Focus. It’ll show up on June 7.

Future Temple is a woozy, mid-tempo, synth-percussion-infused song.

Band: SISTER ENVY
Who: Indie team from North Wales

Track: TIDE
Only their 2nd single’

Kameron Jolliffe (guitarist): “Tide is the first song we recorded together as a band, I wrote it whilst severely hungover one sunny afternoon, it was one of those days where the moon was visible. I wrote it about someone I used to see, a toxic relationship that still pulls you in just to inevitably throw you back.”

TUTV: Gripping, captivating, and evocative slo-mo outpouring with poignant vocals
and about a hundred ablaze guitars on the impassionate chorus. Wowzers.

Splendid effort.

War, Hate, Distrust, Propaganda, Bullying and all the horrible attributes of life,
we don’t need it!! We have seen it all and it does not make us happy, let us break

Band: MASCOTS
Who: Outfit formed in the fall of 2014, as a dynamic passion project among five friends hailing from the outskirts of Cincinnati, Ohio, fusing infectious melodies, electrifying guitar riffs, and pop anthemic undertones.

Track: VERTIGO

“Vertigo” is the natural evolution and next step in finding hope, and seeing glimpses of a future beyond the instant satisfaction we so often seek. A social commentary on quick fixes that we use to tear ourselves down. It is the discovering of new possibilities and finding support to regain a sense of purpose.

TUTV: This is a towering Green Day-esque piledriver motorized by a peppered-up drum/bass tandem, haywire guitars, agitated vocals and a muscular chorus.

Who: The artistic project of New Jersey-born, Nashville-based vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist Sophie Ruggiero. She was raised listening to classic rock greats like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Heart, and became an avid guitar player by the age of 7.

Track: OMG

‘OMG’ is about living rent free in another person’s head. It’s about when someone’s hate
for you turns into an obsession. The song pokes fun at them for wanting to tear me down
when I’m thriving and living my best life. ‘OMG’ opened up a lot of new ideas for my upcoming album and influenced where the SOPHIE SHREDZ project is going creatively and sonically.”

TUTV: Booming electro hip-hop fireworks is what youe ears will hear.
A razzle-dazzle clip is what your eyes will see. If you love Alice Glass
you’ll definitely love SS.

“The overall concept for the video was creation, control and worship. We wanted to stay true
to the SOPHIE SHREDZ vibe while adding a darker twist to create a vampire chic moment.”
