Attack
.

Track: CHEVRON

TUTV: Epic psychedelic jam. Ominous howls, spine-chilling agitation,
freaky saxophone. There’s always a dark light at the end of the tunnel.

Who: Heavy rock icons

Track: PORTABLE DOOR
First single from their upcoming 23rd LP, weirdly
named ‘=1′ on July 19.

TUTV: The Purple still sound like they did in the 60s/70s. As hard as concrete,

Artist: CUSTIE
Who: Emerging alternative pop artist hailing from London, Ontario. His distinct sound explores pop music as it intersects with singer-songwriter, R&B and alternative music.

Track: ON E AND EVERYTHING BETWEEN

‘E’ is an attempt to stylize and leave much of the song up to listener interpretation. By giving things concrete names, it makes everything very topical. I always like to find a way to have my listeners move with me by presenting a song with a certain kind of allure in mystery. Hence the ‘E’ – it stands for anything you’d like.

TUTV: A smooth, mid-tempo, richly orchestrated, sonically
and vocally, pop reverie. Close your eyes, and dream away.

Artist: ERIC SCHROEDER
Who: Singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and pop-rock polymath from San Diego, combining contrast and contradiction.

Track: THE KIND OF WOUND THAT NEVER HEALS
Piece from his brand-new album Turned On The Stereo

TUTV: Electrical mid-tempo blues reflection. Weeping guitars,
perfervid vocals, and ab intense resonance.

Artist: SPIELMANN (Leeds, UK)
Ben Lewis aka Spielmann has been around the block, as a songwriter, producer, band member, DJ, promoter and now, after a good decade and varying degrees of success,
as a front person and songwriter in his own right.

Track: JUST LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE

“In this one we follow our narrator through breakdowns at parties, potential book deals, writing letters to his MP and anxiety attacks. It’s an anthem for the modern person who wants to have it all, but is probably realising something has to give.”

It’ll feature on his debut EP, titled ‘Fifteen Minutes With Spielmann’, and landing on 31 May.

This is glorious, full-orchestrated pop, that transfers you in an eye/ear blink to a sonic dreamland with its affecting melodiousness, riveting chorus and warm-hearted vocals. Three minutes and twenty seconds with Spielmann sounding not like everybody else.

Jangly vibes, glistering guitars, 60s The Byrds-like harmonies.

Artist: STRESS DOLLS (Buffalo, NY)
The moniker of songstress Chelsea O’Donnell

Track: CLOSE ENOUGH

I wrote “Close Enough” in the midst of the pandemic, a period where I didn’t see some of
the people who mattered most to me for weeks at a time. On a subconscious level I think that inspired the lyrics in the chorus about being “close enough” to someone, but the other half was me thinking about the process of falling in love, and how you can be so wrapped up in another person that, no matter how physically and emotionally close you are to them (“even if you were a part of me/ even if you were alive in me”), it doesn’t feel like enough to express how you feel.

Another top guitar pop piece from the Buffalo singer-songwriter.
Tantalizing tunefulness, glistening guitar sparks, and gratifying vocals.

Artist: MOSS
Singer-songwriter from Hull, UK

New track: BLACK DAHLIA

Moss: “Black Dahlia, for me symbolises an evolution from being a bedroom musician, estranged to the music world, to now playing on stage & finding my place & family in Hull’s vibrant music scene over a six-year period. The record’s almost a diary entry into my life, as I got fed up with people taking me for granted & so I kept telling myself I need to ‘do it for YOU’”.

The feverish, mood swings vocality and mixed emotionalism
of Jeff Buckley came to mind almost instantly. Say no more.

Band: JENNY DON’T AND THE SPURS (Portland, Oregon)
Outfit known for their high energy Country Western style and captivating stage
presence, they’ve garnered a global following with their infectious enthusiasm,
and extensive discography, featuring three albums, an EP, and nine singles.

Track: UNLUCKY LOVE

From the band’s new forthcoming LP, titled Broken Hearted Blue ,
out on June 14. Pre-order info here.

Jenny: “I was listening to a lot of Lee Hazlewood while writing this song. I have always been captivated by his songwriting and how he weaves feelings of nostalgia, despair and hope into his songs. His blend of self-deprecation and romanticism strikes a chord, particularly the universal experience of loving someone who loves another. Despite this reality, we still find ourselves lost in daydreams about them. If these were transformed into a song, this is how I would envision it.”

Country Americana at its romantic and heavy-hearted best. Heart-and-soul vocals and easy-going, lovey-dovey vibes for the midnight hours. Wurlitzer jukeboxes were invited
to play this kind of lullabies in bars where the lonely gather for some companion.

Band: PEARL JAM
The iconic veteran grungers
from Seattle

Track: WRECKAGE
Song from their 12th longplayer, titled

A pure PJ power rock ballad.

Artist: JACK MANLEY (Hudson Valley, NY)
Track: SAVE YOUR OWN

From his upcoming EP Unmeasurable Terms, out on May 10.

Manley about Save Your Own: “In the chaos of addiction and treatment,
sometimes the best you can do is take care of yourself first–put on your own
oxygen mask first. It’s a plea to my partner Anna to take care of herself and
let me go.”

Despite the dream pop vibrancy, think Vampire Weekend, the sentiments at
play here are alarming. An awe-inspiring, real-hard-life inspired tune that’ll
boggle your mind.

Artist: OLIVER HOHLBRUGGER (Norway)
Track: BLACK CANVAS

Hohlbrugger: “It’s about that someone you’ll never be with and that you allow to remain
inside you as a perfect unspoiled thing, yet still you measure and hold your real relationship up against it. It’s a dream, an illusion, an unfair fantasy. Nothing and therefore able to be perfect.”

It’s a yearning, gripping, melacholic ballad for the midnight hours. The bittersweet duet perfomance features the sensuous vocals by critically acclaimed Norwegian indie artist Frøkedal. Think murder ballad duo Nick Cave/Kylie Minogue, but also legendary 60s duo’s Nancy Sinatra/Lee Hazlewood and Jane Birkin/Serge Gainsbourg. Heartfelt romanticism.

Artist: DOLLY PARTON
Track: SOUTHERN ACCENTS
Tom Petty cover

Dolly Parton‘s performance of Petty‘s 1984 classic Southern Accents for tribute
album Petty Country: A Country Music Celebration is a vocally goosebumps pearl.

New single: LIGHTS OUT

“This is a song of two definitive sections. The first half was instinctive. It projects the uneasy feeling of late-night anxiety when you awake from sleep in the dark of the night and your brain jumps from one terrifying thought to another. The lyrics were just a continued representation of that atmosphere of the music, which spilled out on the page.

New single: FINGERS ON MY SIDE
Piece from their upcoming debut EP, out on 19 April.

“This song is sort of about being afraid of confrontation, but leaning into it because you know it’ll make your life easier in the long run. By not confronting the things that are taking up space in your head, you’re living in a different sort of reality. Not knowing if anything is fact or fiction, feeling the friction of wrestling with those thoughts in your mind all the time.”

Sleater-Kinney jamming with Dinosaur Jr.
Guitar-bass-layered slackerness.
Melodic turbulence all the way.

Band: METZ (Canada)
Who: One of the best noizzz makers around,
actually, since 2007.

New album: UP ON GRAVITY HELL
Their 5th, out on April 12

New single: LIGHT YOUR WAY HOME

Alex Edkins: “I was listening to lots of Jesu and Low, as I do most winters, when writing this one. Lyrically, it’s about missing your loved ones to the point of losing your grip on reality. We distorted and added a mechanical slap back to the drums to create a wild and huge sound. I love how big we got the production on this one. It’s like nothing we’ve ever made before, sonically or lyrically. Amber Webber (Black Mountain, Lightning Dust) was so great to work with, and her voice just takes this song to another stratosphere. I think the video by Colin Medley perfectly captures the vibe and intent of the song.”

Shoegaze guitar galvanism in slo-mo.
Starry-eyed, far-out, and hallucinatory.
Metz explore new sonic boundaries.

Despite all of his consuming and questing for self-help, unlike Bob Dylan, he has never once ‘gazed upon the chimes of freedom flashing.’ He is just buying crap.”
