Band: THE FAMILY BATTENBERG
Who: Welsh garage rockers.

Track: ANTEATER

Eliot (frontman): “This is an anti-love song. When unhealthy adoration becomes a quest
for romance, or approval in this case, we find ourselves doing strange things. In this story, the protagonist justifies total metamorphosis in the name of subservience. “It’s self-humiliation in the pursuit of a potential suitor’s attention”
.

TUTV: This fired-up blast attacks your speakers on repeat, motorized by a Herculean drummer, high-pressure guitars, feverish vocals, and crushing chorus. Be ready for
the crashing climax.

Band: FANGSLINGER
Who: Southern-fried, blood-stained British romp
built for fans of Black Stone Cherry, Dorothy and
Guns ‘N’ Roses.

“The kind of track that makes you want to kick open swinging doors and
throw your hat at the moon. Seductive, sinister and soaked in sleaze.”

TUTV: Next to these bloodthirsty gunslingers Clint Eastwood looks like
a pussy. FangSlinger shoot from the hip with a striking salvo of nasty guitar
riffage, intimidating vocals, and a smoking chorus. Sassy score!

TUTV: Only their 2nd single, but it’s clear that Cutty is here to stay. One Shot is a groovy jam that satisfies your avid ears on the spot. You can hum, sing or whistle along until the shaky finale sets in. The repeat button was invented for sickly sticky tunes like this. Bullseye.

Artist: KENTUCKY
Who: The musical project of Canadian singer-songwriter Jordan Holman.
His songs, a quicksilver blend of acoustic rock, indie folk, and subtle ’90s alternative
glow, carry stories shaped by extremes: from near-death hushes to the hard-won
hope of second chances.

Track: THE FIRST DAY OF THE REST OF MY LIFE

The song marks a shift in tone for Kentucky, offering a clear-eyed, quietly triumphant reflection on renewal after pain. With its steady acoustic build and gentle optimism, it feels
like the emotional breakthrough following a long internal storm.

TUTV: Hail hail Rock ‘n’ Roll! Kentucky keeps it simple with this irresistible, straightforward steamroller. Foot on the gas, incessant riffage and feeling-good vocals. Amidst all the chaos that plagues our planet, a hopeful booster like this is very welcome.

I Am Kentucky

The 5 fresh ones
TRACK BY TRACK

Artist: A. SMYTH
Who: Singer/songwriter from Dublin, Ireland who
released his notable debut album Last Animals in
2021.

New Track: CAN’T STOP THE RAIN

“This is a song about the inevitability of pain. We all try to avoid the bad things in life, to hide from them, but as sure as the sun will set bad things are going to get you. Because life is made of the light and the dark, you can’t have one without the other. And in that way, sometimes, the dark can be kinda beautiful”.

TUTV: Sonically Can’t Stop The Rain combines both the melodic briskness
of Vampire Weekend and the mystic sensibility of Beirut. The result is a breezy
pop tune for the summer, even when it’s cloudy and you need to hide for
teardrops from above. Envigorating music always works, come rain or shine

Band: THE NORTHERN LINE
Who: Newcomers from Boston, Massachuttes raised on a steady diet of Britpop, baggy, Madchester, and modern alternative, who urge everyone to raise a fist, bang a drum, and get on the indie dance floor.

New Track: THROW A FIST

Bilvox (Vocals/guitar): “It’s a personal song, but it is also a song that connects with
anyone who has done the hard work to move on after a meaningful relationship falls
apart. The liberation, the freedom of the ‘fist’ that’s thrown, mostly metaphorically, is
throwing away the pain, the failed dream, and embracing the future.”

TUTV: Could easily be a hidden track on Blur‘s 1991 debut album Leisure. 90s psych pop with trippy 60s echoes and the characteristically British, confident swagger. Peppy party tune for girls & boys on a high on a holiday on an exotic island. Mass.chester indeed.

3 albums (so far) on their résumé. You can check

Artist: SLEEPY HABITS
Who: The moniker of seasoned New Orleans musician
Alan Howard who released his debut album Ouchie! in
2022.

Track: ANTIQUE MALL

“At the time I wrote this song, I was coming to terms with the fact that you can’t carry everything with you throughout your life. The physical space of the antique mall symbolizes that feeling. With that symbol as its base, the song explores allowing yourself to hold onto the reverence of memory and acknowledge how it has shaped you while letting go of the idealistic sense of the ‘good ol’ days’.”

TUTV: Lazy bedroom pop tune for lazy people on
a lazy day. Like you and me and Alan Howard.

Track: CHEKOV’S GUNS
Piece from their upcoming 3rd LP, their first in 21 years, named
The World Is Still Here And So Are We and out on May 9th.

him doing it for a long time now.

Band: MOB WIFE
Who: Irish noiseniks who entered the scene back in 2018 and who draw influences from the American underground by way of Metz, Fugazi, Protomartyr and of course, Kiss. They released their debut LP Eat With Your Ears in 2022.

Track: MAKE YOU RICH

The lyrical inspiration for the song comes from an ill-advised foray into the world of
TikTok and the uneasy myriad of anti-feminist, racist and misogynistic content that was being presented as a default on the platform. Written as a satire on the influencer culture being peddled to the masses, written from their viewpoint, particularly basing it around one local influencer.

TUTV: Prepare your ears for an emotive eruption of fiery frustration with so-called influencers on Tik Tok and other socials. It chops over and over again like a sharp-cutting battleaxe, crushing misleading social media shit along the way. Wham bloody wham bam. A sonic sledgehammer to haunt maddening mobs with on the Internet.

Track: CAT GUY
Piece from their upcoming, 8th album,

Chris Hannah (vocalist/guitarist): “From my songwriting perspective, the thing I was thinking of was capturing a little bit of Judas Priest’s 2018 album Firepower as if SNFU vocalist Chi-Pig was writing the lyrics.”

TUTV: I don’t know if this metallic hammer blow is one to crush moronic vice-president
JD Vance, who stigmatized women without children as ‘cat ladies’, with. But the very thought makes my day. Fuck you, sexist.

Track: KISS ME QUICK
First music in 5 years.

Her crystalline voice leads the orchestral glow at work here, and the kiss me quick chorus makes
you stick to this song.

Band: REAL BEAUT
Who: Rackety rockers

Track: POLITICS ON THE INTERNET
Piece from their new 4-track EP, named
Politics
. Stream/buy here.

“‘Politics on the Internet’ is about caring for yourself enough not to engage in the beast battle all the time. You can talk to your brothers, parents, and friends. There are minds you can change in this world if you disagree with them, but some dope on the other end of a keyboard isn’t going to open their mind because of the intelligent quip you made on the socials. Prioritize your family and fight locally. Flinging verbal excrement at a screen isn’t the way. Love yourself, love others. Love, sex, being strong through kindness, the weight of political turmoil and technology on what is human in humanity.”

Band: WETSUIT
Who: Indie hit team
from Brooklyn, NY.

Track: MIDWEST DREAM

At its core, it’s a tribute to frontwoman Allison Becker’s mother.
The song is a personal reflection, an exploration of her
changing relationship with her mom as she grows older.

Becker: “I grew up in St. Louis, where there’s a saying: ‘If you don’t like the weather, wait
5 minutes.’ As a Midwest girl, I can confirm the weather does change every 5 minutes, but the saying is why I embrace the seasons and changes in life. There’s so much you can’t control, and sometimes it’s all about finding the little pleasures and riding out the storm. That sentiment echoes throughout the song, especially in the refrain: “They say if you don’t like the weather, wait and it will go.”

TUTV: Midwest Dream is a fabulous, pepped-up pop gem for all weathers, all seasons,
all hours of the day, spiced with high-voltage guitars, Becker‘s heart-rending vocals and
an evocative chorus. Don’t wait 5 minutes to play it on repeat. Bingo.

Band: KATHMANDU
Who: Alternative four-piece band from The Netherlands, led by songwriter and lyricist Donna Marie. Their catchy dreamy songs thrive on the tension between light and dark, exploring the spaces where the two meet.

Track: DIFFERENT LIFE

Donna Marie: “I wanted to write a song that doesn’t just talk about freedom, but actually sounds like it. That expresses this urge to escape and create a fresh start for yourself. What
I wanted to convey is that it is never too late to start over. But you need to initiate it yourself.
No one else will do it for you.”

TUTV: Brisk and energetic, juiced with sensuous vocals
and a shaky chorus. A refreshing, stimulative, amplified
pop debut thrill.

Artists: TIME AND THE HUNTER
Who: The visionary musical project
of Enrico Longhin and Niklas Sundin.

Track: THE FOLLOWING SILENCE
From their upcoming debut album Weapon Pt. 1
scheduled for release on 25th April.

“It’s a deeply introspective piece. When we reached this stage of the arrangements, we immediately thought of Mikael as a guest. He had been following the project’s development behind the scenes, and his contribution to the lyrics was a perfect fit for both his voice and the song’s message.”

TUTV: The Following Silence echoes the gothic powerfulness of former Bauhaus maestro Peter Murphy’s solo work. Well, that’s what my excited ears tell me. Its polyphonic dynamic lifts the overall resonance to a melodramatic level that stirs, arouses and incites. Triumphant piece.
