THE LIMIÑANAS Score Big Time With Their New ‘No Fillers All Killers’ Album… SHADOW PEOPLE

When you can’t resist new sonic vibrations, play them on…

(artwork new album)

Mind-expanding French duo THE LIMIÑANAS just released their new longplayer – and to my hungry ears, without a shadow of a doubt, their best so far – SHADOW PEOPLE. No fillers, all killers. All their well-known sonic key strengths meet in harmony just brilliantly on this new LP with Marie‘s irresistible, repetitive, tribal kicks and Lionel‘s sensual guitar grooves as the non-stop throbbing heartbeat from the very ouverture to the melancholic finish. The mesmeric collaborations are spot on as usual (with New Order/Joy Division bass legend Peter Hook, psychedelia junkie Anton Newcombe / French singer/author Bertrand Belin and French actress/musician Emmanuelle Seigner) and fit the whole story perfectly.

The overall hypnotic and gloomy swagger transfer you to the cinematic glamour and twilight glitter of a film noir. Spellbinding jams infiltrate all pitch-black corners of the
dark side of your satisfied mind. This is the first truly striking record of the new year.
Dim the lights, relax, have yourself a drink, alert all of your senses and experience an avalanche of sensory trips on repeat, like me…

And to satisfy your greedy eyes too here are two visualized tracks off the album…

* SHADOW PEOPLE (title track feat. the wonderful Emmanuelle Seigner)

* ISTANBUL IS SLEEPY (featuring The Brian Jonestown Massacre‘s mastermind)

British Punk Force CROSS WIRES Release Sturdy ‘LIVING IN A RADIO CITY’ Album…

When we can’t get enough of it…

‘Living In a Radio City’ by CROSS WIRES

This 4-headed 70s punk-inspired unit CROSS WIRES has produced some hefty uppercuts, over the past few years, sounding like they were written back in the glory days of legends The Clash, The Jam and Buzzcocks but performed with a grim intensity and a barbed wire fury that is totally 2017! Yes, the year in which intolerance, racism, sexism and inequality reared its ugly heads… again. The year in which the far-right orientated political leaders of the so-called civilized Western world fucked up badly. Therefore bands like this, driven by passion, anger and honesty are very welcome. The band describes their first full length modestly as a ‘mini-album’. To my ears it’s actually a ‘best-of-so-far’ including the agitated AA-side single ‘I Want Radio/Pink Dogs’. This time the cliché ‘Punk’s Not Dead‘ is damn true. Here we go, 1-2-3-4!…

The band will invest all proceeds from this one in recording their proper debut LP next year...

When we can’t get enough of it…

24 November 2017

Although I’m not religious I’m quite sure now that there’s, somewhere, somehow, a God and he’s obviously an obsessed music devotee! First, back in the early 90s, he gave us OASIS, one of the most exhilarating ‘sex, drugs and rock and roll bands in sonic history. After two top-grade albums (unfortunately, they never matched those two diamonds, simply because ‘Definitely, Maybe‘ and ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory?’ were/are outstanding longplayers) Satan took over and made the Gallagher brothers fight like two 7-year old loudmouthed bullies resulting in the group AND the family splitting up back in 2009. But today God is back in charge and he used one of the devil’s classic tricks himself. The holy man nourished the fraternal rivalry again, but with a completely different goal.
No more verbal abuse, no more hostile insults, no God presented them a most tempting challenge, one really worthwhile to battle for: ‘who will make the best solo album? Brilliant idea!! Why I here you ask. Well, both bros accepted the seducing dare and they pushed each other to spectacular sonic levels. Liam‘s first ‘As You Were’ is light years better than
I ever thought it would be. Highly entertaining retro rock and quality songwriting: 8/10. Today it’s Noel turn to prove that he can grow older while sounding younger than he
ever did in a long time. Back to his firework roots, back to massive tunes and scream
along choruses, back to utterly cool motherrockin’ knockout crackers: 9/10. Yes Noel
wins, but hey, he was born a singer/songwriter, while Liam needed to learn the craft
along the rowdy way and succeeded amazingly. So, who still needs Oasis (I don’t, I saw them 27 times)? Within less than 2 months, 2 Gallaghers gave us 2 big albums. That’s way more than another mediocre Oasis record. Thank you, God ! It’s party time, folks…

ROME IS NOT A TOWN – It Is A Turbulent Indie Guitar Rock Quartet With One Of The Best Longplayers Of The Year …

When we can’t get enough of it…

Two years ago this Swedish noise turbo blew me away with an intense, ebullient and rowdy performance when playing my hometown Ghent, Belgium (see review here). And the past few weeks they did/do it again and again and again with their debut album IT’S A DARE
on rumbustious repeat on my tortured headphones. It’s a mighty crackerjack of a record. A robust stream of loud and clear eruptions, a non-stop flow of wholehearted reflections on mixed emotions, on daily life, on being young, on being human, on now and here. An avalanche of cracking riffs, sharp hooks, brawny licks and flurried vocals. Electrifying passion from start to finish. Indie guitar rock at its poignant best with echoes from yesterday’s heroes Sonic Youth to today’s Canadian powerhouse Metz . Yes, folks, that roistering good. One of the best albums of 2017. FACT! Do not hesitate, have a listen
for yourself and you’ll understand exactly why I’m acting pretty excited. Here we go…

LINN KOCH-EMMERY – This Vehement Singer/Songwriter Will Thrill All Your Senses With Raving Debut EP ‘BOYS’…

When we can’t get enough of it…

2 November 2017

LINN KOCH-EMMERY is a flamboyant and charismatic singer/songwriter from Sweden ready to infiltrate countless speakers with her excellent debut EP, titled BOYS, containing four standout crackers that will activate all of your senses in a magnetizing way. They rock and they roll thunderously. You’ll have this ecstasy on repeat for some time. Here’s why…

BBY NEVERMIND: a flaming ripper pushed by towering guitars and a stupendous vocal flow. Catchy as hell from start to finish. This corker will activate your adrenalin’s stream.

UNDER THE SUN: an electrifying groove reminding me of the bloody cool swagger of
The Breeders . An irresistible dashing jam with a stormy finale. A magnificent stroke.

LITTLE FEELS: a mid-tempo, mixed emotions musing, beautifully composed with Koch-Emmery’s voice sounding irresistibly moody and mysteriously seductive like Angel Olsen

FOREVER SOUNDS: this is my personal favorite. A feverish drive fueled with a killer sing along ‘Always On My mind‘ chorus. Hypnotic and glowing . Sonic firework at its very best!…

Without a shadow of a doubt
one of the best EP’s of 2017…

Spectacular vibes we play…

24 March 2017

THE MOONLANDINGZ, the rattling collective including Sheffield’s electronic weirdos The Eccentronic Research Council and Fat White Family‘s genial outlaws – far out frontman Lias Saoudi aka Johnny Rocket and mental guitarist Saul Adamczewski – have their debut album INTERPLANETARY CLASS CLASSICS out today. Co-produced by Sean Lennon at his New York studio it features Ross Orton (drums), Mairead O’Connor (bass), as well as guest appearances from Randy Jones (the Cowboy from, yes, The Village People), Rebecca Taylor from Slow Club, The Human League‘s frontman Phil Oakey and, last but not least, Yoko
, who howls freakishly on the LP’s brilliant closer ‘This Cities Undone’. A truly special record to soundtrack the apocalyptic future ahead of us while dancing madly and out
of our minds. The most intriguing and adventurous LP so far this year. On repeat…

“It’s an inspired mish-mash of Glitter Band tribal drumming, a howling wolf, tuneless saxophone squawking, heavy breathing and at least one narrative about castration; a sort of Cramps-meet-B-52s Hammer horror-rock monster…”

“This record refuses to wear only one mask – futurist without revivalism, acerbic but with swagger – and throws off with gusto any accusations of the term side-project…”

“Right from the lolloping big-beat Goth motorik of ‘Vessels’, there’s a confident, low-life muscularity to the album. And it all comes to a glorious head in the rolling maelstrom of ‘This Cities Undone”, with octogenarian Yoko wailing her berserk best over the massed title chant…”

Their debut packs a far mightier punch than the output of almost any other contemporary group with whom they may share certain influences..”

Go Ballistic With IT IT ANITA – Agaaiin and Agaaiin…

On our stereo…

‘Agaaiin’ by IT IT ANITA

This mind-boggling four-piece out of Liege, Belgium released their new album AGAAIIN
last November. If you really want it LOUD & HEAVY come in, have a seat and check this thunderous engine out. High-voltage guitar frenzy loaded with muscled power chords, electrifying riffs and a manic madman on drums. Boisterous stuff! And …on top of it all raging vocals testing your ears’ flexibility. Sounds pretty mental, doesn’t it? You bet. I saw them playing live a couple of times in the past months and they blew me and many other affected spectators off their feet. Since then I have ‘Agaaiin’ on repeat on my stereo. A knockout from start to finish! Here’s the monster in full…

5 Soul-Touching Pearls For… 25 December 2016

Mesmeric nostalgia you want to hear a over and over again…

For me the Xmas period is about melancholic reveries, soul-touching reflections and doubtful thoughts about the future certainly in this tremendously disappointing year
for humanity around this messed up planet. Here are 5 gripping symphonies I have
on repeat as a part of a 3-hour handkerchief at hand mix on 25th December 2016…

1/ ‘A Design For Live’  by MANIC STREET PREACHERS

2/ ‘Goodbye Kiss’ by KASABIAN

3/ ‘Sometimes I Feel So Lonely’ by PRIMAL SCREAM

4/ ‘Despair’ by YEAH YEAH YEAHS

5/ ‘ Satellite Of Love’ by LOU REED

CHRIS WATKINS – Inside Reflections On Outside Obervations…

Great vibes to play over and over again…

CHRIS WATKINS is and will be an eternal troubadour blessed with a highly companionable Americana voice. Honest and spirited. He obviously composes songs genuinely based on inside reflections about outside observations. His muse breathes humanity and catharsis. His thoughts are inspiring and recognizable. His music sounds like a lifelong close friend coming to visit you for a long night of reviving old, melancholic stories. Heartwarming soul music for a variety of feelings. No special effects. Just guitar and words that will get you involved naturally and instantly. New album LIGHTS ALL ASKEW is a soundtrack that helps to cherish your own private memories. And I, just like you and anybody else, have many moments, happy and sad, to remember, now and then. Before listening to that appealing beauty in full – again – I want to seduce you with the sweet, little track I fell in love with on first hearing. A moody sentiment colored with a gripping female voice that prefers to stay in the shadow, reminding me of the wonderful Mazzy Starr. Feel it here…

I’m busted to the ground
Like a rustic in the lane
The city is wired like an electric choir
Like a ghost outside the window in the rain
This looking glass life
Shadows on the wall
Shadows on the wall
This looking glass life
When the leaves begin to fall
When the leaves begin to fall, on anchortown
I was walking through the field
Like a Cossack in my clothes
When the thresher came on line
It stripped us to the bone
This looking glass life
Shadows on the wall
Shadows on the wall
This looking glass life
When the leaves begin to fall
When the leaves begin to fall on anchortown

I guess we’re all ready now to sit back, relax and enjoy – I’ll open
a fine bottle of red Bordeaux – the touching sound of silence…
