Soulful Sunday With BAXTER DURY And His New Album ‘I THOUGHT I WAS BETTER THAN YOU’

Reveries for the laziest day of the week

18 June 2023

Two weeks ago crooner BAXTER DURY (yes, the son of Ian) released
his new, 7th longplayer, baptized I Thought I Was Better Than You .

Dury about the making of the new LP in an interview with The Book Of Man: “I don’t really have a ritual about songwriting, one thing happens after the other. I found bits of music I liked by me or my son and just sang a story type of thing over the top. Like how you would in a hip hop way. But my songwriting instincts still kick in, so there’s a songwriting landscape to it, those chorus instincts.”

Dury still is a nightdreamer making music for nightdreamers, lonely souls, melancholic people, barflies and all easy-going ears that embrace moony musings like these.

Soulful Sunday With MATTHEW RYAN JACOBS And His Heavy-Hearted Musing ‘STREET LIGHTS’

Reveries for the laziest day of the week

11 June 2023

Who: A singer/songwriter from Kitchener Waterloo Ontario, CA. Incorporating everything he loves into his sound. From Delta Blues to alternative rock, to singer songwriters like Bob Dylan and Tom Petty.

New single: STREET LIGHTS

JABOCS: “The lyrics to Street Lights are a little depressing if you really pay attention to
them or read them outside of the music and melody. The song kind of moves through
stages of life – the first verse being young and hopeful, the second verse being the reality of adulthood, and the bridge is kind of a ”shut your mouth and don’t ask questions“ scenario.
With the chorus reminding you that in the end we’re all going to die. This is only one perspective though, and a negative one.”

An old abandoned drive in diner sits weathered and rotting

TUTV: Americana twilight romanticism the Canadian way. Heavy-hearted and disturbed
as MRJ touches the difficult issue of life’s inescapable fact that in the end we’re all going to die. Great thing here is that MRJ’s warm and comforting voice and the galvanizing spirit of Street Lights sound rather encouraging than downcast, making feel our common fate less final. Invigorating voice, riveting melody/song. Score!

Soulful Sunday With Stirring Songstress JUNEBUG And Her New Musing ‘HURT A FLY’

Reveries for the laziest day of the week

28 May 2023

JUNEBUG is the artistic moniker of Brooklyn-based songstress Carolyn Fahrner.

Her music, as a singer-songwriter, is characterized by its light and introspective nature, making it easy to listen to. It is refreshingly honest and straightforward, yet it possesses
a soothing quality that is truly comforting.

So far she released one EP, titled Turncoat. It came out in 2021.

A new EP is canned and will be released later in the year.

Ahead of it comes its single HURT A FLY.

Junebug: “‘Hurt A Fly’ is the feeling of anticipatory anxiety, like something catastrophic might happen, and you’re just bracing yourself for the worst. At first, the song was about the sadistic wish of wanting someone to live up to the pain you believe they could cause you. However, I soon realized that living in constant fear of how others might hurt you is a damage to yourself. None of us are incapable of causing harm, we are all capable of hurting others, and even more so capable of inflicting unwanted harm upon ourselves unknowingly. The culmination of all of these various strands of thoughts lead to the creation of ‘Hurt A Fly.”

Hurt A Fly is a bluesy and somber ballad with the soul-stirring voice of Junebug shining upfront. Her vocals lift this smooth guitar-groovin’ musing to a starry-eyed dream level
far away from toxic environments. Heartrending effort.

Tune in.

Soulful Sunday With GRAHAM NASH And His New Romantic Album ‘NOW’

Reveries for the laziest day of the week

21 May 2023

GRAHAM NASH is one of those musical artists that will sing until their last breath.

The English-American singer-songwriter started his amazing career back in 1962, when
he formed pop beat group The Hollies along with his schoolfriend Alan Clarke. In 1968
he left and headed to America to join David Crosby (The Byrds) and Stephen Stills (Buffalo Springfield).

Together the three sublime voices recorded/released 13 studio LPs. Solo Nash already released his debut in 1971. Two days ago, 53 years later, he has his 7th solo LP out, titled NOW. A characteristic singer-songwriter collection of 13 songs. Romantic, nostalgic and tender. Candlelight music for quiet moments.

Soulful Sunday With EASTER ISLAND And Their Moony Beauty ‘YOU DON’T HAVE A CHOICE’

Reveries for the laziest day of the week

14 May 2023

Band: EASTER ISLAND
Who: Post-rock dream pop from Athens, GA.
So far they released two albums.

New single/clip: YOU DON’T HAVE A CHOICE

“You Don’t Have a Choice is an indie rock song that evokes an ethereal and moody atmosphere through its intricate instrumentation and emotive vocals. The track opens with a soft guitar melody and subtle percussion, eventually building up to a powerful climax of layered vocals and soaring guitars. The introspective nature of the lyrics is matched perfectly with the melancholic and contemplative instrumentation, resulting in a dreamy and haunting soundscape that encapsulates the overall mood of the song. Easter Island’s ability to create atmospheric and emotionally resonant music is on full display with You Don’t Have a Choice making it a standout indie rock gem. If you enjoy indie rock with intricate instrumentals, soulful vocals, and thoughtful lyrics, then this track is a must-listen.”

TUTV: This a moony and radiant beauty, an amplified musing with crystal guitar sparks reminding me of NYC darlings Interpol‘s 6-string galvanism. A gripping heart-and-soul touching reflection with mesmeric vocals for tranquilizing moments. Magic.

Watch.

Soulful Sunday With PETER GABRIEL And Another Affecting Track From His Upcoming Album

Reveries for the laziest day of the week

7 May 2023

(Press photo)

PETER GABRIEL has his new 9th album, named i/o out soon
(even after 5 singles, there’s no exact release date yet) following
Scratch My Back
from 2013.

Artwork single

New single: FOUR KINDS OF HORSES

Gabriel: “Four Kinds of Horses” actually began on Richard Russell’s project Everything Is Recorded. He’s a friend (and founder of XL Records), and he asked me to pop into his studio.
I came up with some chords, melodies, and words on top of a groove he was working on. We tried a few things that didn’t altogether work, and so it laid dormant for quite a while. Then I started playing around with it again and changed the mood and the groove, and something else began to emerge with a better chorus.”

This almost 7-minute composition about the intersection of religion and violence,
is a mid-tempo mood-swinging musing with soothing synths, firm bass play, and
an intense, vocal chorus.

Soulful Sunday With Living Country Legend WILLIE NELSON Who Celebrates His 90th Birthday

Reveries for the laziest day of the week

Soulful Sunday With Supreme Canadian Voice THEO TAAMS

23 April 2023

THEO TAMS is a Toronto-based singer-songwriter.

He just shared his cathartic cover of Phil Collins‘s 1981 hit
In The Air Tonight (more than 570 million streams on Spotify).

TAMS: “For me, the personal attachment to this lyric runs deep. I recently ended a friendship with a really narcissistic individual and I had a really hard couple months where I was feeling really off and down about it all. I started listening to this track so differently, and I wanted my version to centre around the feeling of when you know something is off, but you find yourself making excuses for someone else’s red flags.”

This Canadian songsmith will overwhelm your ears with his majestic voice, the hero of this cover. The gripping, almost stripped to the bone, performance is heart-and-soul touching. Now and then the emotional resonance flares up but always returns to its bone-chilling core and its subtle piano play. Beautiful.

Listen.
Enjoy.
