PETE TOWNSHED Goes Country On His First Solo Music In 30 Years With Charity Single ‘CAN’T OUTRUN THE TRUTH’

Reveries for the laziest day of the week

26 March 2023

The Who’s conductor PETE TOWNSHEND
released solo music like a zillion years ago,
well, actually 30 to be exact.

And now, out of the blue comes a brand new single, entitled
CAN’T OUTRUN THE TRUTH is composed and produced by
his partner Rachel Fuller under the name Charlie Pepper.

All proceeds of the song go Teenage Cancer Trust.

Buy it here.

Townshend: “The pandemic years were terrible for charities; the Teenage Cancer Trust was created in order to take the money from a series of concerts at the Albert Hall every year and various other things and that had all dropped out. So, the idea of doing this, which is it’s something that has sprung out of Lockdown about mental illness, but also for this particular charity. If you’ve got a scenario in which somebody in your family or a teenager has got cancer, they’re being treated, Lockdown hits, and you’re not allowed to go and visit them. There’s a poignancy to the whole thing about the song.”

It’s an irresistible, bluesy tune with a country feel.
A little pearl with heart-wrenching Townshend vocals
and melancholic harmonica play.

Press play.

Soulful Sunday With New Jazzy ANGEL OLSEN Ballad

Reveries for the laziest day of the week

12 March 2023

Enchanting Chicago voice ANGEL OLSEN (born Angelina Maria Carroll 36 years ago)
scored probably her best longplayer so far in her career with Big Time, her 5th LP,
last year.

She just announced a new EP named Forever Means with
songs from those Big Time sessions. It’ll be out on 14 April.

The first appetizer NOTHING’S FREE is a jazzy musing, lazy and soothing, with
some mellow saxophone, snug retro organs and, of course, Olsen‘s tempting,
whispering voice.

Olsen: “It’s about that point when self-denial breaks and you notice how long you’ve been restraining who you are. It felt really difficult to exclude it from Big Time, but it felt more soulful than the direction of that record; it was coming from a different place. For me, when I wrote it,
I was coming to terms with my identity and sexuality. I was opening up in a new way.”

Dim the lights, sit down and enjoy.

Soulful Sunday With A Reworked Beautiful Day By U2

Reveries for the laziest day of the week

5 March 2023

Mega stars U2 release a new album, named SONGS OF SURRENDER
on 17 March. An album with 40 reworked/reimagining tracks of their
glorious past.

The Edge about the project: “Music allows you to time travel, and we became
curious to find out what it would be like to bring our early songs back with us to
the present day and give them the benefit, or otherwise, of a 21st-century
reimagining.”

One of the revisited songs is their huge hit BEAUTIFUL DAY
from their 2000 album All That You Can’t Leave Behind.

It sounds less euphoric and elated than the original version but its
tender and stripped treatment makes this rework quite beautiful.

Enjoy.

12 February 2023

It’s almost 4 years since musical centipede
BECK released his Hyperspace album.

But he didn’t sit at home on his lazy butt, watching TV and eating
popcorn all that time. He collaborated on tracks with Gorillaz, Paul
McCartney
and many more. He also performed multiple times as
a guest on other artists’ shows.

And this week, he appeared at the Recording Academy’s All-Star
Grammys

Now out of the blue, the former loser shared a tender ballad
called THINKING ABOUT YOU. A song he played live a couple
of times.

Soulful Sunday With GIRL WITH A HAWK And Her Heart-And-Soul Touching Story ‘SAME STARS’

Reveries for the laziest day of the week

29 January 2023

Band: GIRL WITH A HAWK
Who: Singer/songwriter Linda Viens‘collective of
Boston rock legends producing gorgeously emotive
indie rock with Americana, garage, and punk roots.

New single: SAME STARS
Their first for Red On Red Records .

Info: In 1998 Linda Vien’s brother was arrested for armed robbery. A long-time
heroin addict, he had used a toy gun wrapped in a bandanna to rob a convenience
store. He was sentenced to 11 years in a Federal Prison, and had to leave his wife and his two young children behind. He was released in 2010. During his time in prison Linda drove from Boston monthly to visit him During those visits, Linda witnessed the devastation of her brother’s separation from his young family and witnessed firsthand the damage and pain caused by long term, and in some cases, unjust incarceration.

Same Stars was written from her brother’s point of view; from a sister’s vantage point of empathy and sorrow in identification with his daily suffering, shame, regret and grief. In the end of the song, as in the end of the story, he is released into the world a free man who has paid his debt to society, and who must find his family again and begin the long journey of reconciliation and healing.

Same Stars is a heart-and-soul touching story, a longing ballad,
a bittersweet siblings love-inspired reverie with Linda Viens‘s moving
voice sending shivers down your spine. Stirring.

But you see the same stars as me
And someday your daddy will be free
And we’ll ride through the night,
And everything will be alright,
you’ll see, you’ll see
