Nashville Country Star ASHLEY MCBRYDE Thinks That There ‘AIN’T ENOUGH COWBOY SONGS’

Reveries for the laziest day of the week

15 December 2024

Nashville-based country starASHLEY MCBRIDE (aged 41) has released
4 LPs so far with The Devil I Know as her most recent one (2023).

For the upcoming holidays the romantic Americana voice wrote a vintage,
sepia-coloured country ballad, called AIN’T ENOUGH COWBOY SONGS.

McBride: “This one was all about where we live and the genre we love and realizing that the horse I rode in on got put out to pasture. Instead of us saying, ‘Work ethic’s out the window, stick-to-it code’s pretty much dead and idealism is gone,’ it was easier to say that by saying there is no wild out west. That’s all gone.”

Don’t forget about the Indians, Ashley.

Last July the news of the passing New Zealand‘s indie hero
MARTIN PHILLIPS at the age of 61, was a real shocker.

Phillipps was the mastermind/voice/guitarist, and only
permanent member, of jangly-pop band THE CHILLS.

The band recorded/released 7 albums between 1987 and 2021.

Now, the group’s label Fire Records have announced the posthumous
album SPRING BOARD: THE EARLY UNRECORDED SONGS. It’ll feature
20 tracks and will be out on 28 Feb 2025. More info here.

Press info: “A dedicated reimagining of his earlier unreleased songs that became
his artistic farewell, a lasting legacy, and a reminder of his huge, underappreciated
talent. The album has been finalised for release with the love and support of his band,
family and friends.”

One of the songs is this lovely romantic gem,
IF THIS WORLD WAS MADE FOR ME.

KING HANNAH – Liverpool Pop Duo Will Have A Blue Christmas

Reveries for the laziest day of the week

24 November 2024

Liverpool‘s versatile pop duo released their 2nd
acclaimed full-length Big Swimmer last May.

As the Yule festivities are getting closer Xmas covers are coming in.
And King Hanna join the long queue too with their version of Elvis
Presley
‘s sugary 1957 ballad BLUE CHRISTMAS

KH: “We’ve been singing Blue Christmas together for the past couple of years, and so
it felt right to celebrate our favourite time of year in the only way that we know how; singing and harmonising together. Traditionally a love song about spending Christmas alone and longing for lost loved ones, we hope that our simple arrangement of just two vocals and one 60’s Gibson acoustic guitar enhances the romance and peacefulness that this time of year brings on cold, silent winter nights.”

RINGO STARR Goes Country Again – Here’s Smooth Tune ‘TIME ON MY HANDS’

Reveries for the laziest day of the week

20 October 2024

Album artwork

84-year-old beatle RINGO STARR can’t stop making/playing music.
Besides his 22 solo LPs (new one included) he toured for years with
his All-Star Band, which had several legend line-ups.

Back in time, in 1970, he released a sugary country album.

And Starr returns to country melancholia with his first longplayer in 6 years.
LOOK UP was produced and co-written (9 out of the 11 songs) by that
other legend T Bone Burnett.

The album’s impressive guest list features Alison Krauss,
Billy Strings, Larkin Poe, Lucius, Molly Tuttle
and more.

Ringo: “I’ve always loved country music. And when I asked T Bone to write me a song,
I didn’t even think at the time that it would be a country song – but of course it was, and
it was so beautiful. I had been making EPs at the time and so I thought we would do
a country EP -but when he brought me nine songs I knew we had to make an album!

And I am so glad we did. I want to thank, and send Peace & Love, to T Bone and
all the great musicians who helped make this record. It was a joy making it and
I hope it is a joy to listen to.”

Enjoy the first single TIME ON MY HANDS.

THE VEILS – New Zealand Band Share Heartfelt Ballad ‘THE LADDER’ Form New Upcoming Album

Reveries for the laziest day of the week

13 October 2024

New Zealand band THE VEILS centred around singer/songwriter Finn Andrews
bagged their 6th LP, named it Asphodels and will release it on January 24th.

The album takes its name from the Ancient Greek flower of the Underworld, and lyrically, Andrews draws more from the great poets than he does from the well of more traditional rock and roll songwriters.

Andrews: “As always, I really just write about love and death – it’s a compulsion – and that is once again the case here. But I feel as though I’ve never been able to express this stuff rattling about in my brain quite as directly until now. I have rarely felt proud of anything I’ve made for very long, but this one feels different. It’s built on a strong foundation I think.”

Here’s the first preview with heartfelt ballad THE LADDER.
