BEAVIS and BUTT-HEAD, the dumb-ass hard rock fanatics return
on Paramount+ in a new episodic series from 4 August on (tonight).
To prepare us for their lunatic adventures, Paramount dropped a 2-minute
video clip with a very surprising question. Is Beavis a fan of South-Korean
boys band BTS?
Series creator Mike Judge tells us ‘why BTS’? : “BTS is a guilty pleasure — but maybe not even that guilty: I like them. I have pretty mainstream tastes. I think because I used to be a musician, people think I’m going to be a music snob. I’m not at all. I like a lot of very sugary pop music. We did that a little bit with Bon Jovi in the ’90s, Beavis liking them more than he should.”
Act: VIOLET NOX Who: Experimental electro duo, Dez DeCarlo and
Andrew Abrahamson, from Boston who collaborates
frequently with other artists.
Last April the Boston space cowboys released their notable
5- track EP ERIS WAKES. It was named ‘EP Of The Week’ here
on Turn Up The Volume. You can read the here.
To keep the momentum going the synth tandem has a new
video out for the EP piece Magnetar. Think of British trip-hop
explorers Portishead and Massive Attack.
The video reminds me of a Pink Floyd documentary showing the legends
in their early days playing with eye-puzzling psychedelic LSD inspired
visuals on a big screen behind their backs.
ROB ZOMBIE (born Robert Bartleh Cummings 57 years in Haverhill,
Massachusetts) ago does much more than making/playing/producing
heavy and visual metal havoc (since 1985). He’s also a filmmaker and
voice actor.
This September his new movie THE MUNSTERS, a prequel
to the 60s family television sitcom of the same name, will hit
the cinema screens. The film features his wife. Zombie says
it’s a romantic comedy.
Who: France-based trio from different countries, who live in diverse regions, and who routinely meet to play music. They like to begin with bare melodies and then improvise with various instruments and PCs.
They released a new, excellent, longplayer called 10 Minutes last April, with a mix
of tranquilizing piano-driven musings, cinematic reveries with spacey Pink Floyd-like reverberating here and there, and tender, ambient synth meditations.
For the only cranked-up piece on the album, named TRUSTED – 125 seconds of blistering mania with a crackling bass upsurge and a paranoid guitar attack, GmBt Life just shared an obscure and puzzling video clip. Weird stuff.
They have to be trusted
By the people
That they lie to
Band: THE CHRONICLES OF MANIMAL AND SAMARA Who: London-based duo – Daphne Ang (Singapore) and
Andrea Papi (Italy) – that fills a gap in music by bringing
literature, art, and history together into a space where
rock and metal meet electronica.
This always surprising duo launched their sophomore LP Trust No Leaders yesterday (more about this new ace
achievement next week).
One of the metallic highlights on the album isTHE CHEFS SONG.
A rumble of menacing thunder. 130 seconds of brutal turmoil.
And its video clip is as stupefying as the track itself.
Manimal and Samara are formidable sound and vision artists…
Canadian songstress TESS PARKS released new album ‘AND THOSE WHO WERE SEEN DANCING’ last April. The title refers to a quote by philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche: “And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear
the music.”
A new video for my favorite track I SEE ANGELS is now on rotation on YouTube.
The new piece – their first in 10 years – is fully influenced by Latin music,
with Bixler-Zavala singing in Spanish over a percussion jam that conjures up
the spirit of Santana’s early work. Fascinating stuff again by the these two
experimental prog-rock musicians.
Join the party here in the ravishing 11-minute black and white clip…
Band: SONIC TIDES (Liege) Who: Belgian 5-piece that produces a big subversive sound
ranging from noise rock to psychedelic. You can dive into their
duality between dissonant sounds and hypnotizing and
neurotic harmonies.
“An ode to people suffering from insomnia. The lyrics describe the never ending
thought loops that keep you from falling asleep even in a state of extreme fatigue.”
Turn Up The Volume: The sky-scraping vocal vehemence of Soundgarden and the mindboggling electricity of Mogwai. This should give you an idea of this slow-burning nightmare erupting now and then with impassioned yearning. When a magnetic
bass riff and screeching guitars take over, midway, this hallucination works its way
to a inflammatory finale until the torch has burned out. Epic stuff.
The band had the privilege to work with Simon Medard and his team for the production of the accompanying video. The team of animators has worked tirelessly for months on this massive project. Its dreamy visuals were directly inspired by the band members dreams.
Band: BLACK MIDI Who: Young terrifically engrossing
indie 4-piece from London.
The British sound-digging crusadersBLACK MIDI scored one of
last year’s best longplayers with Calvacade, confirming their musical
prog-jazz-rock inspired vision of debut album Schlagenheim.
And their third one, baptized HELLFIRE is ready
for release on 15th July. Pre-order info here.

New single: EAT MEN EAT
The follow-up to ace lead single Welcome To Hell” features Demi Garcia Sabat providing percussion, and more than 50 fan
recordings submitted and layered into the song’s conclusion.
Post-punk flamenceo.

Black Midi about the song/video clip: “The story starts in the desert with two men engaged in a desperate search for missing friends. Their quest leads them to a strange mining facility which, despite a dearth of natural resources in the area, opens its doors for even stranger hosts to welcome them. That evening, with zero sign of their friends, a massive feast is laid on by the mineʼs cantankerous Captain, who performs a long speech encouraging all to indulge as this is to be the workersʼ last night before returning to their families. With good reason for suspicion the protagonists feign gluttony and consume as little as humanly possible. Unfortunately, as they later find, even thatʼs not quite enough. Night falls, they hide and as the workers fall comatose the wardens, overseen by the Captain, make preparations to pump their poisoned stomachs. It turns out the purpose of the mine is to procure an excess of human stomach acid used in the production of a bastardized blood red wine, sold and loved in the region.
After the wider conspiracy is revealed and upon realizing their friends must be long gone, the partners decide they must destroy the facility. A spanner plugs the works however, as one of the men experiences mild effects of the poison and the production of acid in his stomach goes into overdrive. As his chest literally bubbles he says what may be his final goodbyes to his partner and the other man is left to do the heavy lifting alone.
He succeeds and as they flee, arm in arm, the demon Captain erupts from the burning embers and curses the two men to the hell of crippling acid reflux for the rest of their days. They see no reason to worry though, as theyʼre sure to return home hailed as heroes.”
Watch the drop dead coolMAGGIE LINNEDAM team up with her eccentric
friend SIIICKBRAIN of razzle dazzle video for Linnedam’s new badass banging
single BREAK ME!.
Lindemann: “It’s all the feelings it gives you, that rush of fear and adrenaline,
but also the calmness and peace. The video is meant to convey the juxtaposition
of the two – one moment you’re euphoric, and the next you feel like you’re broken,
suffocating and your heart is decaying.”
