The Dambuilders.

Track: WHAT IF?
Along with Dime A Dozen the first shared pieces
of their self-titled debut LP, out on 17 March.

easily come from a Hüsker Dü LP. Herky-jerky electricity with
a sickly steamed-up sticky chorus. Wowzers. I want more.

Artists: A CLOUD OF RAVENS
Who: Post-punk duo from Brooklyn.

Track: REQUIM FOR THE SUN
Newest single from upcoming album
Lost Hymns. Pre-order info here.

TUTV: Hammering drum hits and an agitated bass riff set the shadowy darkwave
tone from the get-go. Immediately followed by dim-light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel
synths, neurotic guitars and disturbed vocals. This requiem gets under your skin in
an eye-ear-blink.

Press play.

Artist: DOTTIE ANDERSSON
Who: A songstress from Småland, Sweden

Debut single: HEAVY OBJECTS

“It’s a song about letting go of the emotions and situations that
drag you down. It conveys sweet melancholy, charming cheekiness
and a hint of stubbornness, all held together by her pin sharp attitude.”

TUTV: Heavy Objects is a hypnotic rush of adrenalin from start to finish.
A spellbinding, guitar-tingling, synth-glisting pop-tastic tune. The ones
the repeat button was invented for. Capice?

Check in.

Band: LEATHERETTE
Who: Italian post-punk act.

Single/video: THIN ICE
From their buzzing debut album Fiesta.

“Musically, it’s a nervous mid-tempo post-punk-ska orchestral tune, sort of Talking Heads-esque. Lyrically, it is quite representative of our approach, both as people and as a band. An approach that can be summed up by the famous Winston Churchill’s quote: “If you’re going through hell, keep going”. We learnt, as musicians and young adults, that things tend not to work properly way more often than they do. But it’s not a big deal, It’s actually what makes life, love and art so special”.

TUTV: Mid-tempo razzle-dazzle groove you can show your best ska moves to.

Band: SWAN HILL
Who: A fuzzy alt rock band from Wales.
The Pixies, Weezer and Pavement think
they’ve died and gone to Jazzmaster heaven.

Single: UNLUCKY

TUTV: Unlucky has a slow-mo Dinsosaur Jr slacker vibe fueled with glowing
guitars. It has a slowly but surely addictive impact after a couple of spins.

Feel lucky here.

Artist: CHRISTIAN TURNER
Who: Canadian singer-songwriter.

New single: NOBODY BUT YOU

“Have you ever been so helplessly in love with something that you know is without a doubt, so bad for you? For me, that love isn’t for a person but a twisted state of mind. For ‘Nobody But You,’ I wanted to create a dark dreamy atmosphere with a lot of room for vocals. I wrote this song on piano, in a tiny closet on a cassette player, with the hope that it would sound a lot bigger than reality.’

TUTV: Nothing But You is an electrically-charged reverie, a guitar-and-vocal powered stroke with an insidiously hypnotic effect. Top stuff!

Artist: DMITRY WILD
Who: Garage rocker, actor
and writer from New York City.

Single: THE SWEETEST THING
Piece from his forthcoming album
Electric Souls. More info here.

Wild: “‘Sweetest Thing’ is also about evolving and growing as a person
and one day you let the fear go and swim in the ocean rain, but all that
is done to punk shoegaze raunchy guitars that are reminiscent of Jesus
and Mary Chain and perhaps about of New Order in the bridge to have
it all explode in the guitar attack till the end,”

If you liked/like the post-glam-punk vibrancy
of the Scottish Reid brothers, you’ll like this
pschocandy stroke too, definitely.

Artists: LateCambrian
Who: Brisk pop/rock duo
from Brooklyn, NY

New single: HOMELY RAYA
From their tiptop new – 6th – album Future Snacks.
Stream it here.

Homely Raya is my fav cut. It’s an addictive psych groove with a trance-inducing flow.
Bang-on beats, flickering guitars, lots of sonic layers, and a duet chorus that brought
The Kills immediately to mind. Home run.

Check out the vibe…

Band: THE SAMURAIS
Who: A four-piece indie rock band from the South Coast of England. The band started out in 2018 playing covers gigs before spending lockdown working on their original material.

Debut single: SILENCE OF THE DAY

What a classy way to start writing/releasing your own songs. Silence Of The Day is a classic mid-tempo power ballad – think early Travis – growing in vivaciousness and devotion along its perfervid course. Add a short fiery guitar solo and you have a winner of a debut.

Band: UNDERCOVER MARTIANS
Who: Hailing from both sides of the Donegal-Leitrim border in the North West
of Ireland, this four-piece merges classic rock and punk indie sensibilities, drawing influences from the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Interpol, and Green Day.

New single: SARCASM IS SEXY

“The song is our poppiest to date. It still retains some of the raw instrumentation of our early singles, but is more polished and structured. Lyrically, the song deals with the initial stages of a relationship- all of the nerves and excitement that comes with meeting someone and falling in love for the first time. It simultaneously describes the anxieties and uncertainties of early relationships, as well as all of the exhilaration that comes with them as well. It is the first taste of our debut EP, which will be announced following the single release, and is one of the lighter moments on the EP as a whole.”

Wah-wah guitars with jangly echos and a sturdy drum/bass beat propel this indie belter. The twitchy resonance of the vocals reflects a feeling of insecurity many will recognize. Electrical romanticism for yearning earthlings.

Press play here…
