41 years ago in London
Who: Celebrated singer/songwriter/guitarist
Active: Since 2005 / 3 studio LPs so far, with
Hunter as the most recent, released in 2018

Features two covers (Nick Cave’s Red Right Hand
and Bob Dylan’s All The Tired Horses)

An EP inspired by Tommy Shelby, the main character
of famous gangster series Peaky Blinders for which
she wrote several songs.

First track: AIN’T NO GRAVE

Calvi: “I’ve been living in the character of Tommy Shelby for years now. The only way to write for this show is to get inside his head — I’ve dreamed about him every night for months, and when I pick up my guitar I try to play to his inner thoughts. My guitar is his violence and my voice is his hope. I always felt he should have “a song” that sums him up — he’s the ultimate antihero — murderous, cold, terrifying, and yet has a deep love for his family and a naive childlike hope that he will one day rise above it all.”

My, oh my! Calvi rocks out with punchy potency on this whisking wallop.
With feverish vocals, she rolls over that good old, irresistible Batman theme.

My, oh my. And when she lets her guitar go berserk
I know I’ll have this pumped-up stonker on repeat
multiple times.

Let’s go…

Here’s ANNA CALVI And A Magical Reinterpretation Of ‘EDEN’ With CHARLOTTE GAINSBOURG …

New sonic impulses

18 February 2020

A couple of weeks ago, compelling singer/songwriter ANNA CALVI announced a new project, titled HUNTED with reinterpretations of songs from her 2018 album Hunter.

She already shared the new version of Don’t Beat The Girl Out Of My Boy with the
wonderful Courtney Barnett. And here’s another one. EDEN features the heavenly voice of Charlotte Gainsbourg. Both singers whisper sensually and magically throughout this entranced ballad, accompanied by a lyrical guitar.

Anna Calvi about Charlotte Gainsbourg: “Charlotte Gainsbourg has taught me so much as a singer, in how the most quiet of utterances can be the most dramatic and powerful of all. When I was writing ‘Eden’ I had Charlotte’s voice in my head, there’s a secrecy and quiet power to this song that always made me think of her. It’s a dream come true to have collaborated with her.”

British evocative singer/songwriter ANNA CALVI released her third album
called Hunter back in 2018. Afterward she worked on various other projects.

She announced now a new album called HUNTED, with a set of relatively
stripped-down versions of the songs from Hunter. The record will include
several guests such as Courtney Barnett, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Julia Holter
and Joe Talbo, frontman of British punk band IDLES.

Here’s Hunted‘s first reworked track, an expressive and electric version of
‘DON’T BEAT THE GIRL OUT OF MY BOY’ featuring Courtney Barnett
