Immortal American pop stars THE WALKER BROTHERS (John, Scott
and Gary
) had a short, but succesful run between 1964–1968.

Scott (1943-2019) went solo afterward and made
a name for himself as avant-garde musician.

Their biggest hit THE SUN AIN’T GONNA SHINE (ANYMORE) (more than
29 million streams on Spotify) was written by songwriters duo Bob Crewe
and Bob Gaudio.

It topped the UK charts and peaked at #13 in the US.

It was originally released as a single credited to Frankie Valli in 1965, but became really famous when recorded by the Walker Brothers in 1966. Cher, Keane, Doug Parkinson and Bruce Springsteen among others have covered the song.

She topped the US Singles Charts today 45 years ago, on 23 February 1981
and stayed there for 2 weeks. It also went to #1 in Canada, top-10 in Australia,
New Zealand, South Africa
and several European countries, but only #47 in
the UK.

The track was taken from the 1980 comedy film of the same name
with Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Dolly herself in her film debut.

The song garnered Parton four Grammy Award nominations, winning
her the awards for Best Country Song and Best Country Vocal Performance.
For a time, the song became something of an anthem for office workers
in the US.

THE BEATLES (1960-1970) released NOWHERE MAN, one of the many highlights
of their game-changing LP Rubber Soul as a single in America and Canada, this
day 60 years ago, on 21 February 1966.

The song was written by John Lennon and credited to the Lennon–McCartney
partnership. Both in the US and Canada the song topped the charts.

Lennon reflected in a 1980 Playboy interview: “I’d spent five hours that morning
trying to write a song that was meaningful and good, and I finally gave up and lay
down. Then ‘Nowhere Man’ came, words and music, the whole damn thing as I lay
down.

The song is generally credited as being among the first
Beatles ones, not pertaining to themes of romance or love.
